Just about to get a TA-05R myself for bashing around lots and having fun. Looking forward to it!

Any advice on it for build/upgrades? "Stock" is likely fine since it's an R version. This is my first TC - first kit I've built in a long time, although I completely stripped down my vintage RC10 a few times in the last year (and used to build a few kits way back when).

I'll order it by the end of the day. Since it's "on order", who knows when I'll get it.

Already got the shell picked out (that HPI Mazdaspeed RCX-8 SpecA I mentioned to you), but yeah, gotta get the wheels/tires I want.

No doubt! I gotta get on that....of course, this work thing is interfering right now.

Can you (or anyone else) recommend any wheels/x-pattern tires/inserts for this? The TA-05 is 191mm wide according to Tower, the HPI body I'm looking at is 190mm:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...6&I=LXGFM7&P=K

Any offset needed to make it look just right? I'm thinking no since it's 1mm difference - I'd rather err on the side of the wheels looking "wide" a touch, compared to being in to far and looking goofy. Unless someone has good advice regarding that...

you are worried about 1mm, no worries man, i use the hpi super wide radials, they grip like nothing else. you can also use the x-pattern, i have some of those for my 1/18th but have yet to put them on the ta05

Question about the TA-05 (still waiting on mine to arrive) - you're pretty much stuck with a 6-cell flat pack (stick or sxs), correct? I don't see any room for a 7 cell, hump or flat.

Just setting my expectations.

you can do a 7 cell hump, just get rid of the battery holder and use glass tape. I used to race 7 cell (asian races) and it was too hard on the motor and electronics.

Hi all, I have a question for those of you that race your TA05. I currently participate in my local club races. The only rule on mods is that you have to run a stock motor (27 turn or 13.5brushless.) I can't afford brushless at the moment so I'm making due with a trinity co27. My driving has been fine (better than most out there) but its obvious that I can't keep up with the leaders speed wise, and not just the brushless, lipo guys. What have you guys done to get some extra speed out the TA-05?
Here are my current mods: CVDs, aramid drive belts, sway bars, trf shocks, silicone nitride diff balls, and aluminum steering. The car handles great and rocks in corners but even next to my bone stock rtr TC4(with co27) it can't keep up speed wise.

I've tried several pinions. So far the best one has been 23t pinion with the stock 70t spur. The track set up is changed from week to week but this has given me the best results so far.
Has anyone tried the different center pulleys to change their transmission ratio? 3racing has 16 17 & 18t center pulleys.

yes they are 31mm, but i have them on regular rims, it gives the tires a rounded surface, which i believe gives more grip in the corners. i have not tried them on the correct rims becuae, that is all the LHS had at the moment
