SAFE LIPO, Orion platinum 4800, Apogee
hey guys, i want to start using LIpo but preferbly want to buy a safer pack, these are the 2 that it came down to. I already know the orion platinum 4800 i have done plenty of research on it.. what i want is some one to sell me on the apogee. from what i know it is of safer materials LImn is safer than LIpo, are they any good? Does anyone own them.? Lastly please do not bring up A123 packs, i know about them too, and i know there good also, but i am looking for a 7.4 pack and they dont make them.

RE: SAFE LIPO, Orion platinum 4800, Apogee
I haven't used LiMn in a car yet, but they are very robust and work GREAT in planes. They do seem to hold up better under abuse than LiPo. I have about a half dozen Apogee packs for my planes and I like them a lot. When I order some more batteries for my MLST2, I will be going for the Apogee LiMn pack made for that application. Another nice thing about the LiMn chemistry is that it can be charged at 2C, so expect a fully discharged pack to be topped up in about 40 minutes instead of 75 minutes...

question? would you happen to know if the discharging caractoristics are similar to lipo. and also do they need balancing like lipo?

pretty much. you want to limit discharge cutoff to 3V per cell like lipo, and the discharge curve is similar too. they seem to hold voltage well under load. the packs I have came with taps for balancing. I always throw them on the balancer when I'm done charging, but they always show up as balanced anyway. by the way, the taps apogee uses are a direct fit to the blinky balancer - best bang for the buck at $25 if you don't already have one.

sorry to bring up a older thread i made, BUT other than this blinky balancer, IS there any other balancer out there that would work with apogee LIMN?

that should work fine, I just picked up the trakpower version balance that looks very similar and it balanced my peak power lipo just fine http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/12576
the orion has a similar/the same balance port so you should be good to go with that one
