Default Need Evader tranny help. Steel gears anyone?

Guys i have to ask a simple question (please don't refer me back to a 353 page T.E.C. thread). I have an Evader BX Pro with a Novak XRS, speedgems 15T, stock wheel and tires. I've had this car close to 3 yrs. It's a nice handling car when it runs but it's extremely fragile. I was out running it in the back yard last weekend and jumped it over a small hill about 6 inches high. Car flew about 2 feet maybe 8 - 10 inches off the gound, landed smooth and normal. I pulled the trigger back and the car just rolled to a stop with the motor spinning. Thinking the pinion moved away from the spur I pulled the cover off and the pinion/spur where fine. OK dig more. Took the tranny out to find yet another idler had died. I've put 3 idlers in this car and 2 diff gears. One because the ball diff wouldn't stay tight and melted the center out of the gear, the second becaused of a stripped gear. Keep in mind that I've been in this hobby for 20 years, I own well over 30 cars I know how these things work. I even have the slipper set 3/4 out to help take the impacts. I've heard rumors that associated gears fit but i believe they too are plastic. Does anyone make steel gears for this thing? I like the car but my patiences with it are gone. I know this thing isn't the strongest thing out there so I don't beat it like some of my other cars but i still end up breaking things that shouldn't break. I haven't kept track but i'm willing to bet that I have more in replacement parts than the cost of the car and it hasn't seen enough use to wear out the stock tires yet. If there isn't a steel gear solution then this thing is going on Ebay. It's a running joke at my LHS. I walk in and they ask what evader part i need today?

Default RE: Evader tranny

DTX makes an aluminum idler (it may be from the nitro evader) that works.

have you done the B2 upgrade?? and yes guver is right they make an alloy idler for the nitro evader that fits the eletric.. i run a 42 mph brushless set up with wheel burning torque, and all i have is the plastic B2 diff gear and the alloy idler. here are the links, i will make it easy on you and let me know how you like it after...

[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX3224&P=7[/link] B2 gear
[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX3225&P=7[/link] B2 diff rings
[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXD109&P=M[/link] these bearing for the new diff
[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFZP0[/link] alloy idler
[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2882&P=M[/link] this for the diff balls
[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGS07&P=M[/link] this for the diff where it meshes with idler.

do all this and you will have a much tougher tranny.

The slipper on the BX has a nasty tendency to self tighten very quickly. Do you double nut the slipper so it stays at your setting? I don't trun 15 turn, but have 3 years in my 19t bx and no further tranny problems since I did this.

Also, when rebuilding your ball diff be sure to use the carbide ball upgrades for both the thrust and diff bearings. Haven't had any diff problems either since doing this.

Thanks for all the links cheech4. I'll give the B2 upgrade a try. I've never had a problem with the slipper. It pretty much stays where I put it and I check it along with the rest of the car after every battery. I try these upgrades and see what happens.
