Losi Desert truck vs Hpi firestorm
im considering getting one of these trucks. from what ive seen the losi is a rebadged xxxt with a few changes. they both look good and are rather cheap. i want something that is durable, decently fast, can take some jumps. this will be for just bashing and i might want to throw a brushless system in it down the road. this will be a pick up and play truck for me and my 2yr old son. i may consider just getting the firestorm flux since it will already have a BL system.

Getting an RTR E-Firestorm for Xmas this year hopefully...
I'll probably hop it up later and run brushless in it also.
IN A TRUCK RUN A 7.5R MOTOR OR SOME TYPE OF 5800KV BRUSHLESS MOTOR.
Any higher than that all you'll do is ride wheelies.

Thats not entirely true. I run a mamba 7700 in my T4, My dad runs a Novak 5.5 in his T4, and my brother runs a Novak 5.5 in his XXXT-CR. We run those on our local outdoor track, and we don't wheelie at all.
We just go fast.
But having said that, go for the Losi.

i think they could have made it a little skinnier and used some skinnier tires just for scale reasons. I think a 4wd buggy would have been a better platform to start with.

RE: Losi Desert truck vs Hpi firestorm
I have a fully tricked out firestorm but this desert truck is really cool. I might get one of these and put a mamba in it that would be a cool opponent for my firestorm. I would say get the desert truck because its like 2 different rides in one with a much better radio system for just a few bucks more I mean you are going to want to put a brushless system in it sooner or later anyways. But the Firestorm does have a tranny thats tough as nails so it adds to piece of mind. I wonder if the losi is just as good in the tranny department?

They way Losi is starting to put out new models I would not be surprised if that was next.

That depends on what the other gears are made of, if they didn't make a stronger idler gear that will strip with brushless power. The nylon diff gear may be ok but I still like the all steel Firestorm setup better....

You never know it might handle differently with the new planetary setup.

i see the concern on the losi's gears. did they upgrade for the speedT to metal for their brushless setup? if its just an upgrade needed thats already produced then that helps the desert truck seem like a better deal. i'm also thinking about either vehical since i'm thinking about doing a brushless stadium and don't really want a rustler.

No the Speed-T doesn't have a metal gear tranny, but honestly Losi's transmission is pretty good, it'll hold up to brushless just fine. But just so you know the Speed-T has a limited slip differential, which won't do you any good for off-road use, of course all you would have to do is take out the locking rings and then add some 3/32 diff balls to get a regular transmission. But I just though I'd point that out to you. The Desert truck will have a normal transmission.
