Default Rustler Mod

Hey guys, im a noob to rc's and i went out and in a hurry bought a Rustler. Now i think they are fine and all but i was wanting something with a little more ground clearance. So I was wondering if i got some extened A-arms and Longer shocks would it be possible to raise it? I am wanting to get a faster motor and was looking at the Titan 550 23t. Also some bigger tires. Any thoughts?

it can be turned into a stampede rather easily, a stampede would be what your looking for, the titan 550 is a 12T, bigger tires will work well to,

so if i got a stampede what would be a good motor with some good torque? Not a full blown crawler but something that would go up hills and inclines alright.

get a brushless motor cause i had a titan in a bandit and it didnt last very long. you will save money in the longrun and will be very impressed with the speed you get from it.

Well if i get a brushless, whats the best one that the stock XL-5 ESC coudl handle? Is it the same as the Brushed? It says that it can handle a 12t 550 or a 15t 540, what is a good one that would last?

The XL-5 is a brushed motor esc. You can not run brushless motors with it. You would have to get the whole system motor and esc.

If you want to keep the stock ESC get a Team Orion Method SV2 15T motor and some Masher 2000's for more ground clearance and speed.

frozen has the best suggestion so far. if not a 15t motor, then a speed gems 17 or 19 turn. if you get a 15t motor, you will need to use a smaller pinion gear(the one on the motor) like a 13 tooth gear. the general rule(all else being stock) use a pinion gear with 2-3 less teeth than the number of turns of the motor.

if you use larger diameter tires, you will need to use a slightly smaller pinion gear, or a larger spur gear.

have you raised the suspension all the way? where the shocks mount to the a-arms there are 3 holes in the rear, 2 in the front. mounting the shocks in the hole closest to the chassis will raise it up some.
