something wrong with motor or esc?
hey,
first time poster here with a question.
i have a losi xxx-t that has been sitting for a couple months and decieded to take it out and drive it.
the esc is stock
and the motor is a peak racing sv2
when i mount the motor up to the spur gear the motor just makes a noise when i giveit some throttle.
when i take it off the spur gear it runs fine when i give it some throttle.
also, i thought it could be the transmission but when i spin the spur gear everything rotates fine.
i have no clue what could be the problem.
any help would be appriciated.
thanks

RE: something wrong with motor or esc?
Im guessing your putting the motor to tight against the spur. Try putting a peice of paper inbetween the pinion and spur. Then tighten the motor. If your pinion and spur dont have a little play it will work the motor harder.
Edit: And welcome to RCU!!

Have you tried a different batt? It sounds like maybe the battery your useing could be the problem.
Also how do the brushes on the motor look? Maybe they need to be replaced.

I know this is gonna sound stupid but is the pinion screw tight on the motor shaft?
my friend had the same problem that the screw wasnt biting down and span freely not moving the spur gear.
If span fine while not connected to the car.
worth checking as the pinion needs to be tight on the shaft

It sounds like your brushes are worn out or 1 is hung up on the hood and thats causeing the problem. I dont think the ESC would cause the problem. Let us know how the other motor does.

so its not the motor.
not the battery.
and it isnt the esc either.(i put the stock one back in too)
so it HAS to be the drive train. it doesnt make sense to me though.
ill spin the spur gear with my hand and everything rotates fine

how do i know when to change the brushs or if one is hung up or not. Could it just be dirty?

As for the brushes you need to remove the spring and slide the brush out of the hood. Inspect the brush for chips or scratches and make sure its still kinda shiny on the surface that hits the comm. Also make sure the comm is clean.

Ok I posted my brainstorm above. Im thinking your slipper is loose so the spur is spinning but not spinning the tires when the motors on. just tighten it a few turns.

Theres a nut at the end of the post on the spur. Fid a wrench or socket that fits it and tighten it a few turns. Dont tighten it all the way.

Hmm wow I thought for sure that was it.
It does sound more like a motor problem now. But could they both be bad. thats screwy. Are the batts freshly charged?

the batts are freshly charged.
and i dont think it could be a motor problem anymore because both motors were working fine about 2 months ago(when was the last time i drove it)
