Well actually the regualar brushes provide better contact. Looks like Orion copied Checkpoint with the springs.
so you saying the regular brushes provide better contact but it looks to me like the orion have better surface area right?

Yeah, I think if you were to take measurements and do the math the orion's definitely have more of a contact patch. That would be the only reason to put them at an angle like that.
How in the heck do I take the springs and brushes out first? When I examined it before I installed it in my LB I couldn't see a way to do it. That's what confused me about that motor.

ok you see the screws on the motor that are holding the brushes on? unscrew that then just pull the whole thing out. the only way to put it back in is go from the inside and lead the circle tab thing through the inside then hold it so the brushes arent in the way and there you go. PM me if you need help on its its kinda tricky but i found an easy way to do it

I had no idea Trinity still made the speed gems series of motors! I remeber running Onyxs, Saphires, Diamonds, etc... when I was like 7 years old. That's been twenty years! Or is your motor vintage?[X(]

They always were way back in the day too! Those were actually the best you could get in the late eighties/early nineties as far as I'm concerned. It's all we ever ran, and we never maintained them back then as we were little kids!!!

If the V-angled brushes were better, wouldnt more compaies make race motors like that? Companies spend alot of R&D money for racing and I bet they came along with that. People say how long the orion sv2 lasts with the v angled brushes,.....do the math!!!

I'll just have my buddy who is a top notch engineer look at it and tell me. Whatever he says will be 100% correct without a doubt. Hey Chris, weren't you the guy with the laughing face thing? You should post that again; it was hillarious!!!!

emaxxman, you were involved too. Some newb asked a question about something and I think you, Chris RC, and someone else got into it for like an hour. I kept chiming in thinking it was hillarious! Someone complained about someone using all the smileys and making it hard to understand his post so then it went smiley crazy!!!! I think it was Chris who posted a laughing face of like a puritan lookin dude or something. Anyway, it was hillarious! Needless to say almost all of the posts were wiped out within a few hours!

See now you remember what I'm talking about!! Anyway, back to topic, he was a mechanical engineer at Dow Chemical. Due to downsizing he now works at a bike shop! Stupid economy!!!I must say he enjoys working at the shop doing sales, bike repairs, and building bikes more than he liked Dow, but he definitely liked the money at Dow more!He was testing the new rubber for the Goodyear Run Flats for a long time. Tensile strength, compression strength, all of that kind of crap. He's really good at doing all of the math, figures, and testing, but not as good at applying it to custom cars, etc... He's basically the opposite of me. I hate all of the math and crap that goes along with a job like that, but give me some steel, torches, etc... and I will build some wicked stuff.
