Anyone build wooden obstacles for a street course?
I want to build a street course in front of my house for 1/10 electric buggies. Saves a drive to the track, gives my son a chance to practice a lot.
Has anyone build jumps and obstacles out of wood structures? Can anyone recomend some designs that work well for these cars, such as ramp height, angle, dimensions, materials, etc?
I am guessing that ramps between 8"-12" in height, ramp angles between 15-35 degrees would be about right. I would have a couple "table tops" structures on the larger size, 10"-12" high, with the steeper ramp angles, and a takeoff and landing ramp as one obstacle on a short section of track. And for the straightaway I would have a couple or several obstacles of the smaller size, 8", lower ramp angles, strung together for a rythm section.
Thanks.

Or those 12" kicker ramps.
EDIT: What I used to do was to put something really high below the ramp to make it high, then the same thing on the other side of make the landing steeper. It really helps with throttle control in the air.

I already posted these vids in another thread, one of the tracks I go to does this for the slash racing. They are maybe 1 foot tall, 25 degrees I'd guess, and the jumps rarely go above waist level. If you want I can try to get some pics of them next time I'm at the track (could be a while though).
I have a really big ramp which I use for big jumps but I wouldn't recommend it, it breaks just about everything given enough time.

I can send you some close-up pics of that, the structure works pretty well, but I don't think you'd want one like that, especially for street. You'd be breaking stuff left and right (I think).

RE: Anyone build wooden obstacles for a street course?
A friend of mine and I have built 3 table tops for our road track. Everybody loves them, but watch out for the bigger jump!! There are several pic's of them at- http://www.speedworldraceway.com/SLA...E_PICTURES.cfm
The big one is 18" tall with 32" ramps and 48" center section, the ramps are at 25deg's. The 2 smaller jumps are 8" or 9" tall with 32" ramps and 32" center sections, the ramps are at 15deg's. All the jumps are 48" wide and we set 2 side by side for 8' of total width. We built the frame work out of 2x4s that we ripped in half and 4x8 sheets of 1/2" OSB. They are strong enough for several adults to stand on too! We are designing more fun stuff that will be added to the mix soon...
