Anyone else seen these yet? 40C?! That's nuts!

Nothing on SMC's website yet except a coming soon banner.

Pretty soon even cast steel tranny gears aren't going to withstand all the torque from new brushless/lipo combos. Might have to go forged. lol

I'd like to see if it would really put out 200+ amps continuously. That's getting into big lead acid territory right there. Put a few of those together and you could start a Honda with it.

You guys did notice it didn't say that was the continuous C rating... I bet it's the burst one which is not uncommon. Most 25C continuous lipos are either 35C or 40C burst.

I did notice that, which is why I asked if anyone else had seen/heard of these.

I wouldn't even consider it. The Reedy 5000mah 35C (175amps) is only $110 and I'd trust them more over SMC. Not that SMC doesn't make ok batteries, I have one and it runs fine but I have to seriously doubt that it's 40C continuous.

Quite frankly, I can't see the average basher or racer needing anything over 150amps discharge at this time. Anything more than that and you're wasting money IMO. MAYBE the guys that are going for the land speed records at over 100mph.

if I were to choose over this and the orion 3800, I would take the orion. I highly doubt it will pull out 200+ amps. Same as the Trakpower 4900 25C. Supposibly more amps, but this is with most companies. I think it is the fact that Orion just uses highly quality Kokam cells which rarely if ever need to be balacned, is what seperates them. One person runs an SMC 5000 in his SS truck and he is one of the, if not the fastest driver in truck.

I don't get it... you say first that you'd choose orion then state that the fastest truck is a SMC. I like SMC cells, they are pretty good value but they would not be my first choice.

Found some info from an SMC rep on the Hobbytalk.com forum. I'm still reading (11 pages), but so far it seems the 40C packs do make a small difference on the track in lower turn classes.
There are also some charts with discharge rates and other things of that nature, but you'll need to register to view them.

I don't see what the price has to do with it. Stormer has them for $130, but Horizon is charging $173 for the same pack.

Huh? [sm=confused.gif]
