What's the Tamiya equivalent of the Baja 5B?
I was just watching this video of the Baja 5b and it looks like a very cool buggy. I love the way it flies over the sand dunes.

I was wondering what would be the battery powered equivalent by Tamiya, is it the Durga?

Well I am looking for 1/10 but what I should have asked in my original post is what Tamiya car would I be able to jump off dunes with. We have a lot of sand here in Kuwait and I am looking for a way to take advantage

Why not just get a Baja 5 then? Tamiya isn't the only brand of rc car in the world!

Going to have to get something 4wd to get up and over the dunes. Any 2wd buggy will probably just dig a hole unless its fairly hard pack. The larger wheels of the 5B help a whole lot too.

the baja is about 3 feet long. the largest tamiya is about half that.
if you want to run on dunes you should probably not look for a tamiya. more like an e revo with paddles or something

you can run 1/10 on sand dunes but you need to be careful you don't get stuck. You need paddle tires for sure on the back.
The durga may work but it's a little low imo to be good in sand.
The thing to keep in mind is that the 5B is 1/5 scale so it has a lot more power and much larger tires. There are a few other brands that make 1/5 scale but Tamiya is not one of them. The closest Tamiya can come is the 1/8 scale 801XT but that was really designed as a race truggy.
I think the erevo is a great option though and should handle most sand dunes well.
I'd suggest looking a bit more for some videos of various different vehicles on sand, that would really help with your decision.

thanks, so i guess if I am looking for a battery powered buggy it needs to be big, have good clearance and large paddle tires. sounds like mission impossible lol

buy a barebone kit baja 5b and get the [link=http://www.engagerc.com/servlet/the-1111/Brushless-Electric-Baja-Conversion/Detail]Brushless conversion kit[/link] from that link (found it linked in another forum)
theres also a whole forum dedicated to baja 5b electric conversions [link=http://www.hpibajaforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=170]here[/link]

That's not unreasonable; it's a large 1/5th scale vehicle. Might want to look at a 1/8th scale buggy/truggy (Say the HPI/HotBodies D8/D8T) that rolls around 300... and convert it to brushless, toss on some monster truck paddles and away you go.

You don't need a $1,000 1/5 scale buggy to hit the dunes..
Even a 1/18 Mini-T can do it

you know, the reason he probably doesn't want a 5B is that more than likely,in kuwait, that something that makes that much noise might make a real good target to get shot at..................lol
