firs electric car : what is discharging ? and did i set it up right ?
hi
i am an old rc fun
This week i decided to get my first electric car
i got the hpi bltz , which is great
but all this new battery world was coming up
so without know to much about it i still got myself fast to the store
i end up with duratrax nimh 7 cell 8.4v 5000mah , and onyx 220 charger ,
the help me to do the setting on the charger , but i am not sure about that .
the settings are :
nimh
5000mah
5.0a(which is the max in this charger )
8m v/c
250ma
but every time i stop it in the middel the clock is counting again the time , how do i know how much time to put it on ?
does the charger know in what level is the battery and start from there ?
what is discharge ?
sorry for all the questions
and hope someone can shoot me some answers

The charger will turn off (and make noise) when the battery is done charging. It's called "peak detecting" and it knows when the battery is full.
Don't worry so much about discharging right now (your charger can't do it). What it is is draining the battery, when you run it in your Blitz, it is discharging. (opposite of charging).

The charger just does that to let you know how long it takes to charge the battery. Just set the charger at the Amp's that you want to charge at, and then start it. It will stop on its own and beep when the battery is done charging.
75 minutes is about right for a 5000mah battery charging at 5 amps. The best thing to do is look at how many Mah the battery has taken at the end of the charge. That will let you know how much charge the battery took. The charger should have a manual that explains most of its functioncs, but they are pretty simple for the most part.

Promatch racing is supposed to be some of the best as far as NiMh batteries go. Here are their 5000mah batteries:
