I see that there was a lot of stupidity in this thread. I just put my rational two cents in here.

This thread makes me wonder how popular really cheap chinese nitro fuel would go over - I think there would be a lot more correlation of price and quality there.

I think there would be shipping issues with cheap chinese nitro fuel. I wouldn't be surprised if the north american manufacturers are getting their nitromethane from there. I'm into any name brand fuel except traxxas......

Actually the majority of nitromethane comes from China. Do some research where they really run it such as NHRA.

Google is your friend....

Default RE: Maxamps Out of their Mind????

Hi fella's,
I am revisiting this thread as i was the initial thread starter. I started this thread as i thought Maxamps packs were way over priced.
It has been 3 months(give or take) now since this thread started. While this thread was hot and heavy I had contact with Austin and was sent a 4200ss 2s hard case to for better lack of term "Take the Pepsi Challenge" I had purchased two Protek 2s 5000 mah a few days before i recieved the 4200ss maxamp pack. Over the course of these last 3 or so months I have compared Austins 4200ss pack against protek 5000 packs. All 3 packs now have 60 cycles on them. They have been used in racing SC trucks not any bashing at all.
The Two Protek packs in the begenning were taking more capacity on charging than the 4200ss(about 450 mah more). After about 8 cycles or so the 4200ss pack was charging up to 5000mah plus upon charging. Now after 60 cycles on all 3, the two proteks are now only charging up to 4400 to 4600 capacity wise and Maxamps 4200ss is still over the 5000mah capacity on a charge(to be exact, this saturday at the track it 5078mah on full charge).. I have to noticed that the protek packs upon the last 8 or so minutes before cutoff actually lose current(slow like nimh does). The 4200ss is as strong as the first trigger squeeze to cut off and notice no change..

All 3 packs are run in Castle setups in a blitz ese and slash 4x4.. In short i did question the validity of the price differences between Maxamps and other manufactures. I have now found out first hand that what you are paying for is quality and i now feel that Maxamps is justified in their priceing as there packs seem exceptional.

I understand not all can afford their packs but i does not take long to save up enough to purchase one. It will be one of the best investments you will make i think!!!

I just did purchase 3 more packs from Austin and the Maxamps crew. Austin actually took time to speak with me one on one and that in its self is rare. They also support the industry extensively.. Maxamps now has my business exclusively!!!

Thanks Austin

Thank you so much for taking the time to report your findings.

I too am a big fan of the Maxamps batteries. It really matters if your racing.
My son is the points leader on the Oval at VRP raceway in brooks Georgia with a 7.4 V 5250 Mah Maxamp battery.
And we only have the one battery! Charging between quals.

The performance gain from maxamps batteries is completely negligible for its outrageous price.
I never doubted the quality of a MaxAmp battery. Just the price. Using computers for an example its like buying the Intel Xtreme version of a chip. Insanely expensive when you could get excellent performance from their non X line for a fraction of the cost. (both stock and overclocked)

I diagree. I believe what you get for your dollars is the high out put over the entire life of the pack. That is what your money is getting you. When you are racing the last few laps is crucial. That is where i have found out that maxamps packs excell!! When you squeeze the trigger on the last lap and out accelerate the competition to the finish line then you know your money was well spent and justified. BUT sure, if you only bash use whatever you can afford. BUT if you race, the difference is huge and the cost is justified!!!

I feel you comparing CPU's to lipo Batteries are not a good comparison at all. That is like comparing baseball to Polo.

I get the same performance with my new Nano-Tech packs from hobby king. They are SO punchy right up to the end of the charge, that I can't even tell they're running down until they hit LVC. They take more mah than the rating, and they make tons of power; just like the reports we hear about Maxamps. The difference, is I paid $17, not $80.

That is great and i am glad you are happy with them. Give us a report on those packs after you hit 50 or so cycles... How about that warranty that came with them?As you stated, they are new. My Proteks were the same at first, but are little by little droping off after 60 cycles and my 4200ss is not..
Time will tell...
Good Luck...

Is that your only argument you have left now is "do you race"? You only tested the maxamps packs and 1 other company so how do you know any other batteries that might be a fraction of the cost will perform the same or better? I am completely happy with the 7 batteries I was able to purchase as to the 1 maybe 2 I would have gotten from maxamps, and I can run all 3 of my trucks for a long time.
