6 wheel drive is better than 4

New toy came today, RC4WD Worminator 6x6 crawler. Quite impressed with it. All alloy bent worm gear axles, completely metal chassis and links, brushless motor and beefy transmission. Alloy shocks and wheels. Everything is very adjustable so I think I'm going to make the suspension a bit more vertical and possibly move the rearmost axle a bit back with longer links and drive shaft. I also think it could benefit from stiffer springs, even with the most preload it's a bit squishy for my liking. Once I move the rear axle back I might even try running 2.2s and bigger tires (it's on 1.9s right now). As usual with RC4WD everything is of super high quality, very heavy and should climb well. I plan to maybe mount a servo controlled pan/tilt camera on the rear area where all that space is. That way I can run a 2 stick radio and control everything. Some HD on-board crawling video should be fun. Cost $699 RTR. Personally I would have preferred if it were cheaper minus the radio but whatever.

It's raining outside so I'll take it out later and try it on the rocks, it came RTR with a 2.4ghz radio.

Sorry for the blurry pictures, lighting wasn't great and I was too lazy to take out a tripod, I'll take some super nice shots later in my light booth.

Looks great. I bet if it had the traction it would pull a house off the foundation with those worm gear axles:D

ThunderbirdJunkie thinks his ProLine Big Rig body would look great on that.

BRB, starting an RC4WD 6x6 savings account[&:]

Show us a picture of that big rig body?
It's NIP, unpainted. ThunderbirdJunkie had the Streamliner on his Savage and it was a good looking body, just doesn't lend itself well to single-color paintjobs

This is the Big Rig (it came out a long time ago)

here's the Savage with the Streamliner

Mmm..

I'm also thinking maybe the Tamiya Scania body?

Is it lexan?
ThunderbirdJunkie thinks the PL Big Rig would be pretty slick painted up like Ophthalmologist Prime.

He needs to talk to the dude at the track that paints this weekend about that.

Very cool! What body do they recommend with it?

RE: 6 wheel drive is better than 4

They don't mention a body, nor do they show it with one.

Looks interesting. Are those Punisher drive shafts (all metal) on it?

As far as a body, you will have to go the custom route - either modify an existing body or make one from scratch.

The punishers are plastic unfortunately. I'm thinking of stretching it a bit, in which case I'll get some metal ones.

I'm surprised for the price tag that they would put plastic shafts on it considering they sell the metal shafts [X(]

cool i like how there is like 6 small wheel nuts and one big one, if my onroads had that that will solve a lot of issues

sheograth 12-14-2010 02:48 AM

RE: 6 wheel drive is better than 4

Well, only the the center wheel nut is functional with regards to the wheel. The others don't screw onto the hub.
