Slasher
I ecently took apart my Traxxas Slash 4x4 from head to toe (clean and familiarize) - have only owned it (brand new) for a month - all looked good, however, the car seems to have a slight grinding sound when pushed manually - but I could not remember if it always sounded like this pr not? Anyway, the only gear that has even remote wear is the spur gear (and only on a small section) - not sure when to replace that? Also, opened and inspected the rear differential - all looked good - however, in the process of cleaning it I removed some of the silicone grease inside - not sure how much is enough in there and/or if I did any future harm by wiping some of it out without replacing any silicone grease before sealing it. I did spray it and the bearings with WD-40 though. Any thoughts? Finally, been contemplating getting a lipo battery and charger. Need advice on what to get with a total budget of @$125. Think I want a 3S lipo 5000mAh and a charger that will charge it as well as capable to quick charge a NiMh battery (8.4V). Any links would be ideal! Thanks to all in advance!

RE: Slasher
Slashes are noisy, they all sound like blenders full of rocks. You have nothing to worry about.
Now put that $125 toward a gnarly-ass upgraded motor/speedo[8D] |
RE: Slasher
+1
To make matters worse, I thought mine was loud before, then I installed that little 4-pole 1410. I might as well be running nitro now haha ORIGINAL: ThunderbirdJunkie Slashes are noisy, they all sound like blenders full of rocks. You have nothing to worry about. The 2S 30C 5200mah hardcase turnigy fit in the slash pretty nice just need a bit of foam to stop it from sliding forward. http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=14991 you can get 2 with the charger, and still be $25 under the budget |

Thanks one and all!
SyCo - those links were super helpful. My Slash already has the velineon 3500 brushless motor and vxl speed control - what would be a solid upgrade from that? What pinion gear do folks recommend? |

RE: Slasher
I run the Hardcase Turnigys in both my Flux and SLash 4x4, they work just fine.

RE: Slasher
Actually Ive had no problems running Turnigy 40c 2s 5000mAh hardcases in mine, and racing it every weekend will tend to make you pretty good for advice. My equipment takes a beating, and I do puch my truck, so IHHHO they are a good battery.

I run those in a savage flux(along with a slash 4X4, and a Jammin X1 CRT) with no issues last I checked my savage flux(and X1 CRT) is a hell of a lot heavier than the slash, and has a ESC/motor setup rated for 2X the amp draw than the slash. |
RE: Slasher
the two things that i have found that make my slash 4x4 run noisy ( louder than normal anyway)are the spur and pinion gear being worn and also the center diff or slipper bearing and the rear diff pinion bearing being worn or sloppy. if you run in a lot of loose dust or sandkeep all these items stocked. the aluminum bearing sleave for thecenter diff/slipper is a good buy to. as for the grease if you just wiped it from the housing then you are probly ok but you dontwant to remove any from thering/pinion or the internal spider gears. also i use the 2s 30-40c 5000mah turnigy hardcase batteries from hobby kingaround thehousebut you will have to install your ownplugs. one of those those with theonyx 235 charger/balancer wich i use and have had 0 problems with should be within your budget. i have also been looking at the gens ace batts but have not tried one yet. i like to use the cheap batts around the house and save my good ones for trips to the track.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/thumbup.gif

RE: Slasher
Thanks again - that Turnigy 2S 5200mAh is rated at 7.4V (less than my NiMH 8.4V) - will it even be any faster/better??

RE: Slasher
Thanks - I definitely need some more education on Lipos...
What's the difference between 2S and 3S - between 7.4V, 8.4V, and 11.1V - between 25C, 30C, and 35C In short, what do these things mean and do - and what do you all advise for my Traxxas 4X4 Slash (speed)? How about this? http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...Lipo_Pack.html |

RE: Slasher
The battery is fine however the esc and motor will get hotlong before its dead(2s optimal) and the plug shown is wrong. You will need 1 female traxxas plug for battery, assuming that you already have traxxas male plugs on your ecs and charger. That battery will make everything hot, get 2s unless you are prepared to do some major cooling options. Good luck.

RE: Slasher
That link is for a female Traxxas plug for the battery, correct? Isn't that what I need (I do have a male traxxas plug on my velineon motor and esc. Also, I am concerned that 2S won't be noticably faster than my current 8.4V NiMh - true?
