O.S. electric motors
 

Are these strictly for airplane usage or has anyone triedd fitting them in a rc? they must have a lot of torque considering its compared to a .49 cc nitro engine.

They are outrunners, and designed for planes. Even if you were to put on in a car, it would probably cog like crazy since they are sensorless, then it would probably overheat. Outrunners are not good at staying cool.

They wouldn't stay cool for car operation. They only stay cool on aircraft because there is a propeller spinning in front of it.

I see. Just thought i would ask since i saw them and got thinking about a rc application.

There are a few people running out runners in cars over at RCMonster. They have crazy huge torque and you have to choose the right motor for the right application, and gear carefully. I've even seen someone build a sensor for an outrunner to get it smoother. It can be done, it's just not as easy. They are also very open can, which is bad for little bits of rocks and gravel.

They are cheaper than other motors, but still not practical for land RC use.
You get a rock or pebble in one of those and kiss it goodbye.[&o]
