Opinions on what to buy
OK!! I want a 1/10 scale off road car, truck, buggy, truggy? There is a lot of stuff available. I would like something that could eventually be raced, but also can be run around anywhere. Something with some speed that won't need to be upgraded immediately. And I don't want to break the bank. I'm not afraid of a kit. I know I want a 4x4 and electric. Any suggestions with some reasoning would be great. Sorry if this seems a little vague, but with all the choices I am a little overwhelmed!!
Thanks! |
RE: Opinions on what to buy
SC10 4x4, Gens Ace 40c 5000 packs, Turnigy Accucel 6 charger, Tekin RX8, and a CK hobbies 4000kv 4 pole motor with a Spektrum S6040 servo.

RE: Opinions on what to buy
Ofna lx1e, Mamba monster/neu-casle 2200kv.
|
RE: Opinions on what to buy
I like the SC10 and the Ofna products. The Tekin stuff is nice! Is there something out there a little less expensive that might do a reasonable job for the SC10. The Ofna suggested is 1/8 scale right? Does it make that much of a difference between the 1/8 scale and the 1/10 scale?
Thanks for your input!! |
RE: Opinions on what to buy
To power the SC10 4x4, you can skate by with a Mamba Max Pro, but then you'll need to add an external BEC to run a GOOD servo like the S6040, Savox 1258TG, etc.

I see! Thanks!

RE: Opinions on what to buy
yeah, you don't need an RX8 ESC for an all plastic SC10. maybe for the LX1e, but not something as light as the SC10. if you are really outa cash, check hobbypartz.com and hobbyking.com for some cheaper yet usually decent stuff can be found. hobbypartz is where the Gen's Ace battery TBJ recommended is from, and its a great battery for the price, probably best bang for the buck on the market. hurry and buy whatever you need from hobbypartz before the end of the month though because i believe they are offering 10% off on certain items, which i think includes that Gen's Ace pack. good luck with whatever you get.

Ofna Hyper 10TT 1/10 4wd truggy? Electronics are up to. Maybe an ezrun sc8 esc and a cheap tacon for bashing and some uber nice motor for racing.

Sc10 4x4 with Team AE Reedy 540R 3300kv motor and Mamba Max Pro ESC, Hitech HS-645mg Sevro and a Tower Hobbies 224 2.4ghz radio
|
RE: Opinions on what to buy
no point in buying the Reedy motor, might as well spend 30 bucks more and get the 1410 3800KV Castle motor that i bet has alot more torque, or go cheaper and get a Tacon or something for alot less and still decent pep.

i think its that it may not be strong enough to power that servo.

RE: Opinions on what to buy
I say the reedy because I use them in all my cars after I spent couple $ on mamba motors and them all burning out

What about the Ofna NEXX 10SC?

RE: Opinions on what to buy
How about the Losi TEN SCT-E? It comes as a roller, but from what I have seen, can handle very good on a track, and be durable at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Q93QamoHE</p> |
RE: Opinions on what to buy
Hi Indy!
I was just looking at the Losi as well. What does anyone think about the Losi Ten SCTE? What about Castle's SCT edition combo? Any info regarding the Kyosho Ultimal SC? Also, the Durango? Thanks! |

whats your budget?

RE: Opinions on what to buy
I have the tx/rx so I would like to spend about $500. If less even better. I would really like to have something to start with and build from there to a point of being able to race locally. I have a problem with buying things I don't need. Radio, nimh batteries, so I think I am leaning towards a kit. I kind of have in mind buying the kit one month, motor and esc the next, battery and servo last. Kind of a long duration but makes it a little more affordable.
Thanks for any input. |

Also, the Durango? Thanks! Castle's combos are great for bashing, but for racing you might want something a bit better. At least something Mamba Max Pro based with a 550 can. The Kyosho Ultima and the Durango are amongst the best 2wd SCTs available, they are pure racers. If you wanted to bash as well as race, I'd suggest something built a bit more with dual purpose in mind, and 4wd. |
RE: Opinions on what to buy
Durango doesn't build a 2wd SCT. The Durango 4w SCT is fragile compared to the SCTE and SC10 4x4 and requires quite a few upgrades before it's anywhere near as tough as the SCTE and SC10 4x4.
SCTE is rough on electronics; the SC10 4x4 is the way to go for a 4w SCT ITBJHO. For a 2w, the Kyosho SC-R or SC10 Factory Team is the way to go bang-for-the-buck, but the XXX-SCT with the TLR upgrade kit and a few other upgrades is a better truck by far once you get it dialed in. |
