gearing question

Hi!I have a redcat volcano purchased as brushed ver.now added a xerun 60 A ESC and a Xerun 13.5t 2500 kv sensored motor .The gears are 48p 17/64 .Runs pretty cool .Can i make it faster change the gear ?Do i have to change both gears or is it enough to put on a bigger pinion, or smaller spur?

RE: gearing question

Changing gears will make it faster. You can just change one or the other. The pinion is what is mostly changed, it changes things a bit more than changing spurs. Try to get 4 or 5 different size pinions, like 18t-22t. That way you can put one on, run it, then test temps. If its still cool move up to the next one till it starts getting to hot or you run out of pinions:D

RE: gearing question

I put on a 26t pinion did not change a thing,it will not go faster than 26 miles.Need advice what to do please!

RE: gearing question

You can't go up nine teeth on the pinion and expect to get a result. Get a 20t pinion and see where it goes. What is the final drive ratio of the car? Did temperatures increase with the 26t pinion? What is the stock gearing?

2500kv is really low for a 13.5, and very very low for trying to get speed out of a car on 2S LiPo/6 cell NiMh.

RE: gearing question

I wanted to buy a 3300kv 13.5t motor but they did not tell me they were out of stock at hobbyparts and they sent me this one. This is the second motor .They have messed up my order first time and sent me same spec motor .Now i have got this one and they said send it back again , i was like not again !That is how i ended up with this motor.Should i buy another motor ? I want to get like 40 miles out of it .What motor would do that?

RE: gearing question

40 miles or 40 miles per hour?

Honestly, ThunderbirdJunkie even thinks an 8.5 in a 4wd buggy is a bit underpowered...but nobody can answer your gearing question until you know what the ratio is at the differentials.

RE: gearing question

i Have no idea how to calculate the ratio .The truck came with 17 pinion and 64 spur 48p .40 miles per hour.Right now it is 26.I put the bigger pinion in it but nothing changed .Motor is a bit warmer , i have fan on it and heatsink.

What battery are you using?

According to Calc RC - (Hitmoto EMXT, same truck) your gear ratio is 2.920, FDR with 26/64 is 7.188

running 26/64, 2s lipo with a 2500kv motor, 4.75 inch tires(a guess on my part) should get you roughly to 40mph.

RE: gearing question

It is only NIMH 5000AH .When i purchased it i was like it is gonna be enough, but never enough. When i pick up the car the wheels are spinnig much faster i can see the tires are spins bigger much bigger then the 23pinion .With the 17 pinion they not even get any bigger.

RE: gearing question

I have received a 9.5t 4400 kv motor .I have plated around with gear so the best i could come up wit 32 mph .Spur was 64 pinion 22.Run with 7.2 MIMH .Why is that do not have more top speed?

ThunderbirdJunkie 03-24-2012 07:04 PM

RE: gearing question

A 19.5 4400kv motor? WTH?
