Best stock electric truck for wheelies

Hi Everyone

I'm an electrical engineering grad student looking for a R/C truck to use for my robot project.

Basically, I need something RTR (I do not want to modify it much or at all), capable of popping a wheelie due to too much torque. This, ofcourse limits the acceleration you can produce from stand-still. In other words, something where if you start from zero to full throttle, it flips up.

What would be the best R/C truck to do this? I imagine something with a high centre of gravity, with lots of torque.

Would the HPI Wheely King RTR be a good candidate?

Thanks in advance,

Cobalt7625

I've also found this:

Would anyone recommend it?

Traxxas Stampede or the Tamiya Lunch box.

Truth be told just about any Brushless Buggy or truck will wheelie with traction. I can flip my VXL bandit completely over on concrete with about 1/2 throttle and it's a long low buggy.

lunch box is a good canidate. cheap kit, and if you either gear the stock motor lower or install a slighty better motor it pops wheelies with ease.

As mentioned above, anything with a brushless system and a good battery(2s lipo is best) will wheely.

The wheely king can wheely, but stock you usually have to reverse and then peg the throttle to get it off the ground.

savage flux with a 6 cell lipo.

Thanks for the replies :)

Would this work? Is doesn't say, but is it rear-wheeled drive?

The 4x4 version is just out of my price range.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but check out the Redcat Volcano EPX. They're cheap, more durable than people give them credit for, and come with everything you need to run for under $200 on eBay. The downside is parts are a little hard to source, and bashing them hard will break them, but that can be said for any manufacturer. I've seen these things in action, and I plan to pick one up eventually.

That will work extremely well. On a 2S liPo or even a cell 6 cell NiMh battery it will wheelie instantly.

You have the option of running a 3S liPo which can make it flip completely over just about anytime you want.

ehh? mine wheelied just fine just hitting the throttle till I threw on a 3rd axle.
if it don't wheelie just put a lil weight at the back

im not flaming, as I love the volcano epx pro.
But they wont wheely out of the box.

With a 2 or 3s lipo battery they will. But not as well as a truck with a higher center of gravity.

The stampede vxl would do the job better, but it should, as it cost almost $150 more.

Syco, hadnt thought of adding weight to the rear of the wheely king. That would make it wheely much easier. As would a better battery.

true I used a 5000mah NiMh which was pretty heavy compared to the stock 1800mah NiCd they include prolly why mine wheelied with no issues.

yes, the larger capacity battery probly added weight and improved the motor's performance as well (higher amp discharge from battery)

Savage Flux, try to find a discontinued 2350 model cheap, run it on 4S, will still wheely on command, the wheely bar is positioned just right to make yourself look like an ace with the wheelies, very easily. No need for 6S shenanigans unless you want double backflips and breakage, I've come to the conclusion the Savage can't handle them anyway, at least not long term 6S abuse, breaks too fast.

Hi Everyone

Thank you all for you informative feedback. I've narrowed it down to these two models:

<a href="http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/traxxas/trad14.html">http://www.towerhobbies.com/products...as/trad14.html
</a>
<a href="http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hpi/hpic1547.html">http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hpi/hpic1547.html
</a>
I would like to keep everything stock and not make many modifications. My criteria are:
<ul>[*]Wheely capability[*]Acceleration capability[*]Durability (must be able to take a beating)[/list]Which is the optimal choice?

Cheers

The E-Savage is not a real Savage, its a total lemon, steer well clear. The stampede should do the job.

So I'm having a hard time imagining what a wheelie-capable RC car has to do with a grad-student's robot project. Care to elaborate?  Or is the project Top Secret? [8D]

Stampede VXL (2wd not 4wd) or E-maxx. The Emaxx I had would stillwheely at almost 3/4 throttle and that was with only NiMH batteries and brushed motors. Makes me wonder how controllable the brushless edition on lipos would be!
