Battery Heat
So yesterday I finally got to run a full battery pack through my newly modded TC4 (Reedy Ti 9 turn double wound, Novak Super Rooster ESC - stock gearing). I ran it with a 2400 MAH 6-cell battery stick and after a hard run with lots of throttle, the battery was the hottest thing in the car. The ESC was barely warm, the motor was warm/hot but the battery pack was scorching. I couldn't hold it for more than a second. Should I worry about the battery heat? |
RE: Battery Heat
yes - it could have something to do with the gauge wire that you are using or the plugs
for example 14 awg wire takes about 30 amps but any less and you are probably trying to pull to much causing the batteries ot heat up also the batteries may not be open to proper ventiltion |
RE: Battery Heat
AHA!
I think it is probably the wire guages. During the install, I noticed the wires on the Super Rooster are thicker than the ones coming off of the batter pack. The plug connecting the ESC and Pack is standard. I guess it's time for me to rethink my battery set up. Thanks for the imput! |
RE: Battery Heat
The plug needs to be changed, your batteries need to be swiched out for better ones (less resistance) after all resistance causes heat. Its only a matter of time before you plugs start melting. Heres what you need to do:
*If your rebuilding the pack* -Get a good soldering iorn -Some sodder -Deans pro3 battery bars -'Wet noodle' wire -Better connectors such as powerpoles (sermos) or deans. Solder it all togetter! *Getting a new pack* Here are some good places to get a pack: boomboombatteries.com ballisticbatteries.com promatchracing.com maxamps.com Get some good SxS 3300's with deans or powerpoles, and you wont see much if any heat from those puppys. *Building a new pack* Same as rebuilding, but get some better cells (gp3300's) -Wes |
RE: Battery Heat
Pede, man, that's priceless info! Thanx!
All I want to do with this TC4 is see how fast I can get her to go. :D I'll start building my battery packs and then save up for a brushless motor. Do they make any modified brush motors that hit the same RPMs that a brushless will? Ne1 have a clue how many rpm the Reedy Ti 9t double wound hits? Seems like they would list it on the reedy site but I couldn't find it. All I know about that motor is it make me TC4 ^haul *****^. |
RE: Battery Heat
yea the rpms ova 9t... would be about 53,000 rpms...around:D
|
RE: Battery Heat
about 53,000? [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
Muahahahahaaaaaaa NICE! |
RE: Battery Heat
*Sigh*. And I'm proud of my 27T Revenge of the Monster motor. :D
Don't worry though! I got a 15T double to make up for that! ;) |
RE: Battery Heat
cause my 8t pulls about 55,000:D on 6 cells.
