Tales of TN's 'Vader
 

I was posting in another Vader thread from time to time but seem to have lost it, so I figured I'd just start one if it's ok.

The latest woe:

While trying to get my steering servo issues worked out (steers fine for a bit, then for some reason the servo moves to a hard right position) I was out bashing 'er about a bit in the back yard, and suddenly the car stopped. I went over to check it out, and found the right rear axle lying next to the car. The culprit? Those little pins that hold the axle to the wheel assembly.

Neither of my LHS's have the pins for them in stock. What's a good temporary fix? I thought of taking a large paperclip and running it through the hole a couple of times around, but not sure how long that would hold up. Anyone have any better ideas?

You should be able to get the pin at a hardware. If they don't have them Tower Hobbies does

Small nails work great, just find some that are the proper diameter and cut them to size. You could also use an old hex wrench if you have one of the proper diameter.

I had the same problem last week. I just used a nail to replace it. It has happened a couple of times to me. The nail seems to be holding firm.

No, tower doesn't have it, that's not the pin. Everyone has that prob including me. I had the perfect diameter wire put it in and bent it over so it won't fall out and it hasn't budged since.

I used a small paper clip that I trimmed just enough so that there is no binding and it has been in there for quite some time. the remaining barrel pin actually tried to escape on me earlier but I put it back in. lol

Why isn't that the pins? They are the exact same size and type.

They may be the same size, but those are spring pins, when these ones are solid.

Really????? Maybe it's because i have the evader pro or something, but if it used spring pins why would they fall out? Those usually stick right in wherever you put them. I've tried using them in my pro, and i can't get them to fit?? oh well

That's what I was wondering is how did it fall out? This page is from the parts list on the pro and it shows them there too so that is strange yours are solid.

OK I'm totally lost now. There is nothing called a "drive cup" in MY parts list and I can't see any pin back there held in with a set screw. Can some one tell me what number that is on the parts list? If it's some thing that breaks or gets lost I would like to get some spares

I pulled mine out and it doesn't have set screw holding that pin, it looks like a press fit. I am planning on having a couple spares anyway cause I'm sure they wear out.

they don't wear out, it's just they're loose, and need loctite usually

Personally, I have a local guy that makes them for me. He uses hardened steel for the pins and they're sized to whatever wheels I'm running. No slop = less wear. $2 each though, kinda pricey..

The ones I posted are the ones that actually touch the wheel. Are you guys talking about the pin that holds the driveshaft to the axle?

The hits keep comin......4 laps into an early AM run yesterday left me with a busted tranny brace and rear mounting plate. It's the first replace on the tranny brace, and I know they make those in aluminum, so that's an easy fix. Those plates are about 6 bucks a pop at the LHS, and thats the second replace on that one.

This thing is simply landing too hard. Doesnt matter if it's full throttle or not, I don't think I've got enough ride height when landing from jumps. What's the answer here? Pre load the hell out of the shocks? Move the front upper shock mounts to the center or inner most position? Say to hell with it and buy a second truck that's more durable? For the money I'm dumping in this thing, I may well be on the way a Jammin or something of similar caliber.

And it rained late last night....no track time today!

If your jumps are farely high you might want to try stiffer springs.
