Anyone done any 1/8 electric buggy conversions? If you have lets hear what you have done and post some pictures if you have any. Here is what I have:

Kyosho K3
Brushless Neu motor
BK Controller
4s lipo's

Hyper 7
Brushless Feiego motor
MGM Controller
4s lipo's

Mayhem(work in progress)

Here are pictures of my K3 and the Mayhem.

I love going to the track and spanking the nitro guys with my cars!

... What I would do to have one of those! It must be great to have your own CNC, I will own one some day... I love that video though, that things screams!

Thanks -
Loads more torque and power than nitro. I get 8 - 13 minutes of run time depending on how hard I push it. Just got my RC's unpacked this past weekend. Today in the mail my new MTroniks Truck ESC arrived. I might try it in my buggy before putting it in my EMaxx. See how it goes. :D

That's the Genesis right, the ESC your getting? What motor are you running in the E-maxx? I prefer the Plettenberg BigMAXXimum or the Hacker C50 Maxx.

RE: Anyone have an 1\8 Electric Buggy Conversion?

Yeah it is the Mtroniks Genesis Truck ESC. Arrived today. Not sure which motor I will use in my Emaxx yet. Figure might try a few different ones and see how it goes.

Sounds like a fun project, is the e-maxx stock?

Im going to assume it has some aluminum parts, do you machine your own parts such as A-arms and shock towers or just buy them? Integy has a BUNCH of parts I would love for my truck, but i've heard Integy's aluminum is crap.

Most of everything for the Emaxx was purchased. Some ali but a lot of RPM mostly.

Will do -
Here is the ESC that arrived in the post today:
http://www.starluckrc.com/catalog/pr...9a07d622ba23ee

I will be trying it in both my 1/8 scale buggy and my EMaxx. First the 1/8 scale though. Still need to soldier the battery and motor cables on. The heat sink is HUGE.

That black thing it looks like it is sitting on is the heat sink.

StudySession,
Very cool. I actually was inspired by your car when I first started researching to do mine. Glad to see you are still playing around with it trying to make it better. Have you tried any lipo's in it? I get about 20-25 minutes with mine. It is nice to have less weight in the car too.

I'm working on one right now:

MBX R2
MTroniks Truck
Feigao 540C 9L
4s LiPo

I haven't fired it up yet. I want to get some opinions from those in the know, before I do. This has been a huge challenge for me, as I'm technically new to R/C vehicles. I played with them back in the early 80's, but things have changed a lot. Let me know what you think, if you see any potential problems, etc.

RE: Anyone have an 1\8 Electric Buggy Conversion?

well I saw study sessions buggy article a while ago and it inspired me to try to build an electric buggy. I always wanted a Blazer SST and decided I want to build an electric truggy. I got the ok from my parents now I just need to save up for a few more months to buy it. I will be running 12 cells with a novak evx stolen from my emaxx and dual s-600 motors. It won't fly like the brushless motors do but it is cheap and the s-600's have plenty of power in my emaxx. I might upgrade to brushless when I get the money but probably not.

No - I have not tried LiPo's yet. Will one day but not right now. Thanks for all the compliments.

Seriously are these things really faster than a nitro? I can't see an electric Mayhem beating my nitro powered car. Don't you guys love the sould of a nitromethane gas burning motor. A hundred dollars worth of port adjustments on a nitro and you can get 4hp and 40,000 rpm out of my .26 I will admit, my only experience with a fast electric was my hornet with a Trinity Big Daddy that turned 53,000 rpm like in 88' lol I really am curious about electric, as it has seemed to of come a long way.

yes seriously. a BL powered buggy (or whatever model) can be extremely powerful. not that it is needed. but it is nice anyway.

Seriously YES these things are faster than Nitro... much more torque as well.

And no, most of us HATE the smell of nitro, and the noise, pollution, etc... which is why we convert them to Electric :P

40,000 rpm's is still 20,000 rpm's slower than the 60,000 you can get from electric.

Plus, we don't need to do "after-run maintenance" at the end of each day... we just throw it in a closet until tomorrow! No smelly fuel or goooey black stuff all over the body either to worry about.

Don't get me wrong, I see the appeal in Nitro and have a couple myself. But they tend to collect a LOT of dust compared to my electric vehicles... they are just WAAAAY more fun to me!

But let's not turn this into another Nitro vs Electric thread... let's just see pics of your brushless conversions. I'll post mine later this week after my motor and ESC arrives, here's my build:

Ofna MBX R2 Ultra rolling chassis
Feigao 540 C 9L (black with built-in heatsink)
Mtroniks Genesis Truck brushless ESC
Cold Fusion 1/4" Aluminum Motor Mount
Futaba S3305 Servo High-Torque w/Metal Gears
2 Kyosho Twin Force Battery Holders

I plan on eventually going LIPO, but for the time being I'm setting it up with dual 6-cell NIMH packs (Max Amps 4k's). The mbx r2 isn't completely symmetrical, so it was a bit of a challenge getting the battery holders mounted, but I think I got them arranged OK finally. Pics will follow shortly, LONG LIVE ELECTRIC!

Electric will always be faster then nitro, theres alot more variables and room for adjustments in electrics. A mini-t with a mamba comp-x can do 60 mph, which is faster, so yeah; they are faster.
