How many battery packs do you have?

I was just wondering how many battery packs do you guys/girls keep on hand? I'm ordering some new packs and was going to get like two 7-cell and one 8-cell packs. Going to give my old packs to a member on here. Also can you recycle your old batteries with you local waste department like Energizer or Duracell or do they have to be treated differently?

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

For cars, I have three nice-but-basic NiMH packs: Trinity Reference 3600 6 cells</p>

Then, I have three ghetto packs: two 2000 mAh NiCd built from cordless drill batts, one 3600 NiMH built from an old 8 cell pack, and one Shark 1500 NiCd.</p>

The ghetto 3600 is on its last leg. The Shark is horrible, I think it has at least one bad cell, it heats up and only runs the car a few minutes. It is in the recycle pile to bring to Radio Shack now. I already salvaged the Deans from it.</p>

The drill NiCd packs work very well, even though they look like something a terrorist cobbled together.</p>

Wow, until I saw this post I hadn't realized how many I had!  7 lipos, 5 nimhs, and a host of receiver packs...4 and 5 cells

Another good question is: "How many chargers do you have?"</p>

Those of us that have more than 4 battery packs, if you have a big day, it would take days to recharge them all if you only had one charger...</p>

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

I've got 5.  My old integy only does nimh and nicad, so it's pretty much limited to receiver packs and old nimh packs.  The ICE does pretty much anything, but doesn't balance.  The Losi charger is pretty much junk.  It's balance connectors fell apart, and since it's only 50 watts, charges larger lipos very slowly.  I got a Turnigy from HobbyKing for $37, and so far... its been the BEST charger of them all!  It does everything, balance, charges everything from nimhs to the new Lfe batteries.  It's only limitation, is that it's also only 50 watts, so it charges my larger packs slower.  I just ordered a new one, and it does everything the Turnegy does, but at 250 watts.  This means I'll be able to fast charge AND balance with it. :D

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

All Nimh Battteries:
3-Radio Shack GP brand 3300's-over 3 years old and still hold a charge
4-Elite 3600 saddle packs-good packs that are matched for racing
4-Trinity Reference 3600's-2 of them are new and have never been charged
1-4200 EP pack-might be going bad on me because everytime I charge it it's really low on voltage like 6.5 volts
but as soon as I put it on charge it will shoot up to 7.5 volts then finish at 8.99 volts in 30-40 mins
Chargers:
2-Superbrain 960

If I upgrade my packs I'll have to upgrade my chargers also.
But it is nice to have 2 chargers to have 2 packs charging at the same time.

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

Got 6 packs right now. Though I rarely use the 2 old nicds. (don't even knew what mah they are anymore, I just guess 1500 on the charger) one six cell, one 7 cell, and one 8 cell EnerG 4600s, and  Duratrax 3600 6 cell, which is also rarely used now that I have the EnerGs. Going to order a few EnerG 1600 sxs packs from Promatch when they come out hopefully later next week. Just in time for the 1/16 Slash.

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

I have 6 Energ 4600 Promatch Platinum matched (8 runs on them total), 3 EP4200 Promatch/Slingshot (20 runs total) 5 GP3300 that are crap (30 runs total), some nicad Sanyo packs from the 90s and some 1500-5000 stick packs I never use. I only cycle my batteries once per day I use them, so it is usually equalizer on smart tray then charge, run, then discharge, then equalize, then charge for 5 miuntes. As you can see, I dont run my electrics to much anymore.</p>

This is the bulk of them. There are a few more, but they are hard-mounted in vehicles.
Only one charger, an Intellipeak ICE.

Access do you use all of them? That is a lot!!! How do you keep them from going bad, if you don' drive all the time?

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

keep them atlest half charged, and they can sit for months with no voltage drop, i had a venom 5000mah 2s 25c lipo(junk) a trakpower 20c2s lipo that is now dead but lasted alot longer, and now a park-n-power 3s 30-32c 4800 lipo, that consistantly charges over 5000mah at 4.5amps

ps- one good 5000mah lipo battery is all you need, i get 30 min run times atleast, charge it twice a day at the most,

Chris_RC 05-20-2009 12:03 AM

RE: How many battery packs do you have?

If you dont cycle them every few months, they will get under voltage. What I just do is d 1 complete cycle on the battery on my charge revery couple of months. A battery looses 20% charge for the first day, and 1% each day after that.....or pretty close to.
