My new Tamiya TL-01 Ford SVT F-150 Lightning

TL-01 £99

its fast and is actually quite good in the snow, even with the on-road wheels.

planning to add knobblier tyres and add a faster motor, maybe a 21T or a sport tuned.

Will a Parma PSE Clodbuster body fit this car?

heres a video of it running.

The TL-01 chassis are one of my favorites from Tamiya. I have a few of them n different forms. I have a couple of the Baja Champs and the Cobra R model. I eventually got tires of the on road stuff and converted my Cobra to a Rally car. Worked out great and that thing really takes a beating.

I think the Clod body will be just a little too long for this chassis. I could be wrong. I have never tried to set the clod body on one of these but I remember it to be a slightly larger body.

1) That is a road car, right? It is amazing that it will even move in snow.

2) ...so it must be 4WD, right? 4WD is so much easier to drive in control than 2WD.

3) Is that a mechanical speed control on it? Wow, upgrade that right away and you'll lose some weight and get longer runtimes.

4) Nice-looking truck.

@JeremyZ

1+2) Yes, 4wd shaft driven and the tyres are slightly knobbly

3) Its my first day with it today, ill keep the MSC until i get bored and upgrade, and get a new battery

4) Thanks!

@John01374

Its one of my favourites too, had 2 in the past, baja champ and bonzer clone.

Do you know any good shocks/hop ups for these?

20T F+R Waterproof ESC
Spiky tyres and larger wheels
1957 Bel Air body
Higher firmer suspension

wow that looks nice!

are those wheels any good in snow? where did you get them?

john01374 12-21-2009 07:21 AM

RE: My new Tamiya TL-01 Ford SVT F-150 Lightning

The wheels and tires are from hpi. Just look up their rally car stuff. They do work ok in snow. There not great but they are better than street tires.

I mounted some tamiya double blaze wheels on this tl-01 today, the thing flies in snow!

i even got air on a bump and a snow mound!!

only problem is i cant mount the body on, partly because of the new wheels, mostly due to the body mounting posts being low.

heres some pics, video is uploading.

Did you gear it down when you put the bigger wheels & tires on it? If not, be careful as it will be easy to burn up the motor.

RE: My new Tamiya TL-01 Ford SVT F-150 Lightning

well its only a 27t silver can, if it dies, more reason to buy a better motor :P

Ok so i have now made some body mounts for off road use, using some aluminium tubing.

i used wire cutters to cut the tubes and a swiss blade to make the holes, i am quite impressed with how i did it, i thought id make a right hash of it but it turned out pretty well.

heres some pictures.

Way to use that ingenuity! However, be careful not to flip it, or you will bend the tubing and be done.
