Default Tamiya Baja King Upgrade/Re-build Help

Hey Guys

So recently I decided to get out my Baja King and give it a dust down. I received this as a Christmas present years ago. Its pretty scratched up on the bottom and some screw holes are shredded. When using it I notice it veers off to one side. Also I remember getting a full ball bearing kit as well. The body work is pretty damaged as well. Probably should have took more care of it when I first used it. I was wondering what upgrades I can purchase and what I can do to fix it up. I'm thinking about getting a NiMH 5000mAh battery pack and purchasing oil filled dampeners. I've been looking at newer motors but I'm not sure what I should buy. I've heard that that the ESC can overheat as well. My current ESC is the standard Tamiya TEU-101BK.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Hamish

I've had the Baja King ... Now its a touring car .. Could you take pics on how bad the underside is mate? Also best upgrade ive done its the brushless setup from hobbyking the 11.5T setup with stock gears and 19t pinion and runs cool and super quick! Li-Po is the way forward mate! but you can still use nimh's on brushless but wont give you the ultimate punch and running times will be lower. The steering may be adjustable with the trim on the radio control itself and may be positioned to the side.

Hope that helps

Sure, here's a video of my brothers Baja - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aAbq3AXLh0. Mine is pulled apart right now as I'm cleaning it but here's some pictures - http://s1346.photobucket.com/user/Ha...ing%20Re-build. I've also been talking to someone on http://www.rcgroups.com, also here's my post - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2063318, you may want to join in on the discussion there, I started talking over there because there was no waiting period for the moderators to check your posts. I'm still a bit sure on the motor but I've decided to get a brushless system.

Here are the links for the stuff I know I'm buying:
Set of oil-filled shocks (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110698475...84.m1423.l2649), quick release battery holder (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170962455...84.m1423.l2649) and new batteries (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181120087...84.m1423.l2649)

I see you have had to cut some of the wing off, is that necessary? Also I noticed you have, quite a bit of metal and aluminum on there, where did you get those upgrades? And are the any better than the originals? Your tires a huge, did you use it for rock climbing or something? Great build there. You may want to join the conversation at RC Groups as the other guy did.

Yes I had to cut some of the wing... wan never a problem as I planed to replace it with a more durable nylon wing
HBX have a newer style body and wing that does not need cutting.

yeah I went a bit nuts on alloy parts... honestly they are just for looks. all from ebay.... I kind of recommend everything apart from the alloy arms...
on my other one converted into a crawler im using the HBX single piece plastic arms

the reason the wheels are so big, is because it exploded a 1/10 buggy tyre from to much RPM and tyre ballooning
they are a spare set of wheels I had from a 1/10 stadium truck... but they are awesome on grass.... now it wheelies and pulls backflips...lol
