RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
There's no engine the R40 can handle. It's a matter of can you handle it? Setting up the car is one thing. However IMO out the box the R40 handles really well and is glued to the ground. Are you going to race? If so, get a 3 port engine. Only 3 port standard or turbo are legal. 5 ports are outlawed unless the track lets you race them. The .12TZ is a great choice of engine. It's cheap on rebuilds, Os reliable, and got great speed out of the box. It's not as fast as the other Novarossi/Nova based engines on top, but for the small to medium track it owns.
Hey all I'm thinking of this kewl trick. This small rx pack mounted dead center on the battery cover and wondering how it would do on run time. I don't have the amount number so..that bites. Using a Hi 625mg steering and std hot bodies servo it did last a long time without recharge. This seems to be a great idea for another weight saving trick.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
It's fast yes, but not as reliable as today's Novarossi engines. Components on the engine are also heavier so it will rev a bit slower. Get something thats off the novarossi site itself. The NS/NSR/N12/RR12s are all great engines. You can find them from $240-$300. Otherwise the OS .12TZ has great power and is cheap for rebuilds. I'd check the OS out.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Hey folk, first post here thought you all might be able to help me on this one. I got the OS .12tz max 3 port for my rush evo stadium truck. My flywheel uses a collet http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM719&P=X that goes between flywheel and engine out shaft. However the OS doesnt fit the collet system. I need a flywheel that doesnt use one.
I bought a rc10gt flywheel and it dont work, and doing some looking I think the r40 flywheel will work.
Before I toss another 10 or 20 bucks out the window, can anyone help out on this problem?
And one ome thing, this OS has some insane torque, my set up now works but I can tell its spinning in the flywheel shaft. Its put up till I get it figured out.
Thanks for any help.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
The R40 works with SG and standard cranks. Rear exhaust engines are easier to fit in the car. A side exhaust requires the yokomo GT4 side exhaust manifold. RB makes one and so does serpent, but the serpent one is weak. For $100-$150 you can get that HPI .12Re which has pretty great power since it's STS based. The OS .12Tr if you can find one is pretty great too.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
hey guys, new guy here, I just got me an r40 with a novarossi nt12 for $300 bucks brand new everything, car and motor, i can't wait till run it.
I used to race kyoshos but the slack of parts on the LHS got me into the r40. I also race monster trucks and i own a savage. i had a good luck with the savage, hopefully the r40 will be as reliable as the savage has been. i guess i'm a hpi guy now, plus i'm thinking about getting the hellfire as soon it comes out.
well that's my story,
Oscar.

For the price it's race legal and sports more power than you'd ever need. The OS .18TZ you'd want to REALLY use a tall gear ratio on the R40. The stock is too short and the .18tz will send you flying all over the place. That engine nearly makes 2 1/2 HP and spins upto 40k. I raced one and easily beat it since I had better traction. The Os .12TZ is very reliable, powerful, and cheap for rebuilds.

Hey guys, what do you think of the Picco .12 Roar certified? This is the link I saw on ebay... Would this be a good engine for a parking lot and racer's edge?

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
They are on RC mart and so on. Basically the only new things are the chassis and few other parts. Most others are basic R40 upgrades. I just upgraded my R40 and left it as is. No need for the Hara kit which is like $500. If you've already upgraded the R40 might as well not buy the Hara Vs.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Ok, its been a while so hi again!
Hara parts arent available in the US yet. Also if you purchase the hara parts like the chassi its about $100 there and the new upper deck, tank and servo mounts. Thats what the major changes to the car is. Maybe a little setting up tweaks the other aspects in the car but its livable without them. So, around $200 for the basic upgrades you need to make it a Hara? Then you've got the options of graphite parts, aluminum shocks, and lw two speed, lw axles to tac on to the price if you don't have them already. To be honest, hara parts would help you out more if you bought a Hara car instead of the parts for the converstion. I hoped that a converstion would be easier and cheaper but in fact it really isn't. Oh sure there is a few benifits you get out of the Hara parts, but if your content with your upgraded r40 now, then like sab said they isn't much reason unless you've got the cash and always want the current car. If your car is in need of upgrades then you can look into the hara parts, but i'd get the most drastic performance changing parts out of the way.
For example, if you have a super chassi and want to go Hara chassi I'd second guess that. It wouldn't make any huge differences without the other hara parts slapped together with it. Then the price is really big too...
As for engines?
Well, its really a matter of preference. Usually the guy clueless on what engine to get is a bit on the new side (...usually). Now, really for a first timer or not so experinced any reliable engine would do that doesn't produce a hefty price tag will work. Then, once that engine has lived its life and you've progressed then instead of replacement parts, you'd get a whole new engine with more performance and now it will live longer and produce a cheaper maintance cost. As some high end engines parts cost just about as much as those budget priced engines. Yea, in most cases the O.S. tz will work fine, hpi's are good beginners to work on as well. Advanced ones are like Sab said again the Italian made engines, ones that win championships, those kinds.
For the reciever trick, its been thought up waay before hasn't it? I know there are desprite people out there on a budget trying to figure how to shave as much weight as possible. Yea, It should work with some double sided tape and the battery box cut to fit it in.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Hows everyone doing with their rides? For some pro racers the 05 hara runs a lot better than their stock kit. I'm still sticking with my original upgrade kit as it works well for me. Turbo head button made my Rody come alive truely. It's just amazing like as if it's a new engine. Usually turbo buttons only give you a little bit of xtra boost, but a little seems to be an understatement in my case.
