If you want it get it and try it out. You can always buy another body to paint it. If you're bashing it doesn't make that much of a difference.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Hi everyone glad to join ya all on this forum!
After 4 years of fun and chaos (and lots of uncontrolled wheelspinning) with a Shumacher xtr 21 (not the easiest car to handle) I have seen the light and decided to buy an R40.
just a few things i have been wondering about
Firstly, would it be adequate to just cut the side windows out of the shell for cooling for the standard Hpi nitro star pro .12 engine?
Has anyone tried li-po batteries for the radio gear?
What sort of speed would I be looking at with the nitro star pro .12 engine? (highest green pinion gears)
Finally, does anybody know if servos are waterproof? Was thinking about taking it out in the wet.
Thanks in advance

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
I bought a li-po battery last week. I had to buy a voltage regulator to bring the voltage down from 7.4 to 6V. I've just connected it to the car to test it. The servo response was alot better than my previous 5 cell 6v battery pack.
Both packs are 850 mAh rated but the li-po seems to be better. I havent tested it on track yet. Will do that this weekend.
The mass of the li-po pack and regulator combined, is lower than the original 5cell battery pack.

with the green pinions and hpi .12 id guess around 50-60 (only a guess) umm servos are really hard to waterproof being that you cant really plug the open holes due to teh fact that they need to be able to move.

Yeah im not after making them waterproof as such. I was just wondering would it be safe to run the car on a very wet track? My R40 is on its way now. Won it brand new on ebay a few hours ago

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
As to the li-po batterys for radio gear question, i run li-pos with a voltage regulator in 2 of my models (will be all when i can aford more regulators) and yes there great. in my 1/8 buggy for instance an 1200 mah lipo last all day running digital servo's, an in car data recorder, and telemetry system when i was using nimh in the same car i would use 4-5 batterys in a day.
as to your servo waterproofing question to my knowledge all high end servo's are water "resistant" and in my experience this translates to water proof, i have ran several of my cars in pouring rain thru huge puddles of water for hours and not had a problem.
maybe i'm just lucky??

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Yeah I cant really see servos being a problem in water. At the end of the day, motors are fine when wet providing they are not submerged for long periods of time, essentially this is all a servo is. I have several basic two channel AM recievers. I remember reading somewhere that they (think this was a Sanwa specification sheet) can take up to 8.4V. Infact my tamiya uses the main battery pack for power (on both the old mechanical speed controller and the ESC) so they must be able to accept 8.4/7.2V. Surely regulators are not required.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
if its an electric car the regulators aren't required, there is a regulator in the esc, i'm pretty sure if you plug a li-po into an rx with no regulator it will fry. however i did find some regulators yesterday that were only $20 each at rcaccesorys.com, the otherones i bought were $43 each

Sweet. I won't get my sedan in time, since the GT is on ebay and it's gonna take 7 days for it to end. GL at the end, I may stop by to check it out and snap shots.

I know that they carry parts for thee mugens and the kyosho at the track from bk hobbies for just in case. The member ship is not necessary just the fee for the race. I'm guessing the transponder is really up to you if you want to get or not. If I were you i would not want to miss this race, at least come check it out.

Companies such as powerracing make a spring tool which is basically a hook that has a handle like a hex driver or you can just use needle nose.

Hey guy's, you may or may not have noticed, but i havent been around for a while, but i kinda lost interest in my hobby since i bought my new car (nissan 350z touring). Anyways im getting rid of some stuff, and you guys will notice it is a pretty sweet deal for any interested buyers. All items being sold are in excellent running order, and will run out of the box with little more than a charge, and a shot of fuel. please dont flame me for posting this here, but ive been on these boards for a long time and wanted to give you guys a crack at my stuff......later ,chris http://cgi.ebay.com/HPI-R40-Traxxas-...QQcmdZViewItem

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Just got my R40 the other day. i am working on putting it together now. i have most of it together and have gotten about as far as i can without my radio equipment or engine, which is still on the way. i could not be happier with what i have seen so far. i am very impressed with the design. i cant wait to see how it runs at the track. i was a little bit surprised at how heavy it is, but i think it will still handle great.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
Hi, i'm not trying to be mean or anything, just honest. i would put money on the fact that no one will ever bid on that ebay auction.
first off E-bayers hate reserves, your better off to just start the bidding at your reserve price. second you have a feedback of 6 with none of those being sales, only purchases. Third the $750 buy it now will scare people away, dont set a buy it now option. the way you sell on ebay is to get the folks to start bidding, then competitive nature will take over, alot of e-bayers have an "i'm going to win this auction if its the last thing i do" mentality. thats why you sometimes see stuff sell on ebay for more than the item cost new. People MIGHT bid if you start very low and with no reserve (although still highly unlikely with 6 feedback.) if i were you i'd try and sell them at your LHS.

RE: the OFFICIAL R-40 thread !
It's not even a matter of reserve or how low the price is really in that case. Not many people nowadays want an R40 or stock revo. Also not everyone can toss out $750 easily. I'm trying to sell a RC10GT and thats not going easily as not many are looking for a GT. It's all a matter of want. If they want it bad enough, they'd bid on it.
