I wonder if the "M-Special" motor is for the M-chassis... (I think it is) I wonder what makes it special...

I'd guess it is probably from some of the older Tamiya rally kits......

Alright that's it... reading all this M-03 madness (esp. all in one sitting!) is just giving me more anxiety. Looks like I'm going to have to do an Brushless M-03R for myself as well. Now the question is blue plated... or chrome kit?

Ugh... damn you guys. Now that TB-02 is indefinitely going to stay NIB!

Oh yeah, build up the TB-02 as well...

Yeah I will try to update whenever I can to keep the spirit of the M-03 alive!!

I was trying to source the instruction manual online but I didn't find it. Is the stock spur/pinion: 37/20? (or does the R kit come with gearing options?) This was my assumption since I found sources saying the internal transmission ratio was 3.134, an FDR of 5.8 and spur options from 16-21. I think I saw the number 20 mentioned more commonly so I took a stab at that.

I read the gearing options were limited? Can somebody explain a bit more how much limited?

Basically I was trying to work backwards to select a BL motor KV. If I want to hit 40+ mph on 7 volts can it be done with a 5700? And what if I upped the voltage to 11 with that same setup will it break 60?

I did use the online rc speed calculators to guesstimate some rpm values but I'm not sure how much of a exponential loss I should account for drag and friction at the speeds I'm looking for. Same goes for the realistic voltage drop under loads for both NiMH and LiPo's. What would they realistically be? So how much thousands of rpms should I subtract from theoretical?

I am impressed with that 3s 7700 run but that's quite the risk doubling up the motor can as a "scatter shield"

Then there's the in between 6900 kv option with a possibly of 3s.

Decisions decisions... what route should I go??

You can find the M-03M (Suzuki Swift) manual here:

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=58368

(see the right hand side upper corner that says "Product Manual") It will show you the gearing option..

I don't know how easy it is to control if you want this FWD drive w/ short wheelbase to go 60mph..

I think w/ my existing setup, it probably goes 30mph+.. 35, maybe? (6-cell + 5700kv motor) It is more than fast enough for me..

But feel free to try the 60mph, though! I'd be interested to see!

I did not use the smallest pinion (as I'd preferred) due to the motor wires in the way (not being able to move the motor to some certain mounting location). I suspect you would find the same unless you use a different motor or re-route the wire somehow..

Good luck!
