When Iwas looking at the M chassis Iwas considering one of these. All hopped up just need a shell and electrics.

Yes, the "R"-spec chassis from Tamiya are usually good value..

Wish they come w/ TRF shocks here, though...

Besides the price -
What's the difference between these two chassis?
Thanks

They are mechanically identical, except the more expensive one has blue chrome plated chassis and some plastic parts..  supposed to be a limited edition.. !

Never got round to posting pic of my "tiger" style paint job.
Not that great, but I'm happy enough with it.

Hey guys, my girlfriend just got me an M03L Mini Cooper S 2006 for my birthday. Yey! Would've wanted the M05 since it's newer and better, but she bought it while she was at Hong Kong over the weekend, so there's no way to return it. Hey, it's the thought that counts right? Will be painting it yellow just like her '04 Mini Cooper. What hopups would you guys recommend to set it up for the track? Are the stock tires any good? I'll be running it in an indoor asphalt track. I already got a new stick pack lipo (my current lipos won't fit), bearings, the hollow carbon shafts and aluminum motor heatsink. Spent $60 today for those parts [X(] Is the ball diff worth it? LHS has both the TA03 and Manta Ray ball diffs, which one should I get? Can't wait to start building tomorrow. It's been 13 months since I last built a kit, and I'm excited

I have read that some racers actually prefer the gear diff over the ball diff, but I have no idea.. I have only tried the gear diff (stock), no experience w/ the ball diff.

I ran the HPI X-Pattern Belted tires when I had my M-03M. Did not use the stock tires so I can't comment on that!!

Good luck!! Keep us posted w/ your M-03 build!!

Yeah I also heard that most racers here are experimenting with the gear diff by using some super sticky grease inside like the Tamiya AW grease. Anyway when I hit the track I'll try it with the gear diff. I'll bring along my TA02 that has a Manta Ray ball diff so I can swap it out for comparison

Okay some pics of the build. Here's the kit along with some hopups. 6 pcs bearings for the gearbox (wheel axles already come with bearings - Thanks Tamiya!), quick-release battery holder, aluminum motor heatsink and hollow carbon shafts

The workplace. Nothing fancy, and looks a bit cramped too. Wasn't a problem though since I was building a MINI A little midnight snack consisting of tom yum noodle soup

Suspension installed. Didn't bother building the friction shocks since I had a spare set of CVA mini shocks from my TT01D

Finally complete! Wow, it was really a pleasure to build. Definitely the easiest kit I have ever assembled. Also had the thinnest instruction manual. It's that easy to build

For now I'm using an old silvercan (still have to break in the silvercan that came with the kit) along with a Futaba MC230CR tucked inside the chassis for a lower center of gravity

All that's left is to paint the body, and get some aluminum wheel hexes that I forgot about while I was at the LHS. Can't wait to run this baby

Looks great! Those tires should work well for silvercan.. I ran the HPI X-Pattern because I was running BL setup in mine.. a lot of wheel spin.. ha!!

The club racers here are running 13.5T in the mini class, so I will eventually have to upgrade to that

Installed regular touring car rims on one side, just to see how it looks. These are regular Tamiya 26mm +2 offset wheels. Llooks pretty good! No rubbing or clearance issues, I think this might be the only way to gear up to get more speed from stock motors

No rubbing, wheels are still tucked inside the fenders

The TC wheels widen the track as well, which should provide more stability

Also borrowed the TRF shocks from another kit, again just to see how it looks. Bling and performance - 2 birds with one stone Now I am tempted to get the pricey TRF M Chassis dampers

Looks great.. I'm surprised that the 26mm wheels actually look okay!!

Oh yeah, is there a point for that carbon shaft?! (It is not a rotating part if I remember it correctly.. ?!)

Yes you are correct, the shafts do not rotate, but they are heavy! Any kind of weight savings is a welcome addition in my book

Bigger rims look like the car has been hopped up.. (19" or 20" on a Mini? hee..)

not only that, but the tyres have a lot less profile, which adds to it [8D]

Might be the way to give you more option on tires too!

Damn I really like it with the standard touring car wheels! You are hardcore doing your build with a bowl of ramen and portable DVD player. LOL Nice job Bok!
