What could be stripping the gear on my tt-01
Well i built a tt-01 awhile ago, and i noticed one day it would not run. After suspecting the gears, i replaced the spur gear(Big white one) observing that there was a line of grey, and it was a fraction shaved off. Well i build it up again and saw the same problem was happening the stripping. What could be causing this? I really want to know because it's just sitting there collecting dust.

Set the gear mesh correctly. There are many methods but using a paper as a guide you can udually get a good mesh. I just do it by eye now and once you get the hang of it you will have no problems.

Yea the first time i did, i did the paper method. Maybe i needed to realign it again. Who knows. Any ways to avoid this? Prevent this?

Hes says the white spur so im guessing hes using the 61 standard spur, like others have said m8 check gear mesh and also make sure pinion screw is secure and not moving on the motor prop.
you will get grey dust from the gears meshing even when they are setup correctly maybe if you could post a pic of the spur so we can look at it properly,if it has digs or gauges defo sounds like a bad mesh, also the standard spur can only be used with 19-22t pinions to mesh properly.

The gears strip very easily on the TT-01 if you are running a hot motor, or heavy braking. This is common even with the speed-tuned gear upgrade.
The chassis, motor mount, and gears are all plastic, and when you coumpound the plyability of it's nature with the quantity of parts in the system, flexing is inevitable.
Because the motor mount is designed for use with specific pinion sizes, you will not be able to do much with backlash.
But, be patient....3Racing will soon be releasing a chassis upgrade that is inepensive, has an aluminum fixed motor-mount, and will bring the TT-01 to competition standards.

So buy a TT-01 and then change out the whole chassis?!
Maybe buying something more competitive to start with would be cheaper.......

That is absolutely correct for those who have not yet made the initial investment. For those who have already made the purchase of the TT with whatever upgrades, the chassis is a drop in the bucket. The tuning is the fun part of the hobby.
Personally, I'm gonna do the 3R just to say I have a wicked TT.
And LB, you know better [I see you playing devil's advocate]....you understand the appeal of Tamiya cars and the TRF lifestyle.

Nah, I hear ya... for those who got all the hop-ups already, I agree.. but was just saying, if you know you are going to change out the chassis and all that before you buy the TT-01 kit, you might as well start out w/ TB-02, etc.
If I buy a TT-01, I'd keep it stock.. (hee hee.. right.....)
Next thing you know, I'd have all the mods from the catalog, ha ha ha ha!!
Anyway, I think a TT-01 w/ full ballbearing should be pretty durable and should not strip any gear even w/ BL motor..

Was it a stock Pinion? (The small gear on the motor). Make sure it's a Metric 48 Pitch (0.6 mod, not imperial 48P). Also, Tamiya Pinions are made from aluminum and is designed to wear itself out instead of the plastic spur. If you get steel racing Pinions... I am about to find out myself!

Yea it's all stock.
Well interesting i saw the chassis 3racing is going to release as beautiful as it looks and all, for an extra 108.00? Thats going to be about 110.00 for the chassis if i buy one again, then about 108.00 for the chasis, then about 50 dollars worth of upgrades. Id be better getting a tb-02 for evo. But still tempting.

If you anticipate upgrading everything, absolutely. Truthfully, I have no idea why people even buy plastic cars if they plan to build the heck out of it. It makes sense to just get the good car in the first place.
A fully built will cost about the same as the TB Evo. By the time you buy the kit, the chassis, the adj arms, the steering, bearings, diffs, etc, you have spent the same money.
I know I'd prefer the Evo....whit the clear blue covers......:drooling:

Very tempting i know. But when funds are low and all.
Quick question whats the gear set up on the tb-02? Same as the tt-01 or different?
