Does any one know how fast a Silvercan racer has been able to go ??
I mean the Johnson 540 motors (Silvercan) you get with a Tamiya Car...

RE: Silvercan Speed record
The 3-speed Tamiya semis seem awfully fast with a silvercan, but it may be an illusion. I'll clock it tomorrow on 7.2 I don't have 8.4 at the moment because I don't have any IB4200 packs with me at the moment to utilize my 1.2 "NOS" cells with...

LOL, no, I meant, to the original question on how fast the silvercan will go.. so I asked what's the "rule" that we have to follow...
Did he meant how fast a silvercan will go for 7.2V? Or 8.4V? Or 14.4V? Unlimited voltage?
I know for sure a silvercan can be quite quick when you up the voltage.. doesn't mean that they will live long this way but they are pretty tough motors..
On my Clod, I run them with 14.4V.. been driven my Clod for many packs.. the motors are still fine!!
So that means, the silvercan can probably go up even more...
I am sure a silvercan w/ 14.4V in a pancar can do a good 35-40mph!!

Easy 25 mph with a F103 chassis. Probably more if oyu gear it high.

I could easily see it doing 40 in a light car (pancar, F1, etc) with the right gearing and a good amount of voltage.

RE: Silvercan Speed record
Well some of my Mates race Silvercans and they estimate that the fastest possible top speed is 44kph..
They got this estimation based on the maximum RPM they have ever gotten out of one..
So it just got me thinking, if it was possible to push the envelope further...

Thats only about 27mph, I'm certain you can get more mph than that with the right gearing and voltage.

RE: Silvercan Speed record
What sort of gearing would I need in an F103GT for high-speeds using a Silvercan? Someone said from a vid that they thought it was a hopped up motor in my car. So I've got the Hopped Up F103 coming, I've got a Silvercan and an 8.4v battery, I fancy giving this ago if I can find a good enough road. How will I measure the speed?

Find a large parking lot and mark two lines about 100 feet apart. The lines don't need to be exactly 100 feet apart, but you do need to know the exact amount of space between them. In reality the longer the distance between the lines the more accurate your results will be.
The basic idea is to get your car up to it's top speed before it enters the speed trap (the area between the two lines). Then with a stopwatch time how long it takes for your car to go through the speed trap and do a little math to find your speed .
Divide the distance (in feet) by the time it took to cross the speed trap (in seconds). Then multiply that number by .682

Thanks drevil, will try that when my car arrives, if all goes well a video will be posted up. Gearing will be as the car arrives with a carbon chassis, ball-bearings (I think), stock silvercan, Tamiya TEU-101 ESC and a Kyosho 1200mah 8.4v battery.

One more question, what tyres will be better, foam or rubber? My foam's are 40 shore, 30mm at the front, 26mm at the rear.
