TT01E Mods Help

I just acquired a used TT01ES XB Sport with a Subaru Impreza body and lights which I just cleaned and rebuilt. It has the YEAH RACING kit partially installed with steel outdrives (unknown brand but has "39" marked on them), stock AM/FM reciever, LRP AI ESC (stock one went fritz), Venom 17d motor, and bearings all around. All these parts came in the package along with all the stock parts and other half of the unused kit. This being my FIRST 4x4/shaft driven/touring car, I am not sure what the game is about these. I cannot seem to find a good dealer for Tamiya parts or much support in general. This car is far from perfect but I am learning. I did some dremeling and shimming but basically the chassis came with the offroad rally mod where the skid plates are cut to allow for maximum suspension travel and a homemade center chassis skid plate has been installed. However, I would like advice and recommendations to point me in the right way to fix some things.

1. The AM/FM range could be better. Is there a cheap way to convert to 2.4gHz?
2. I have the extended body mounts but they are constantly loose and move. Is there a better way to mount them? (The phillips screws strip out the mount) FIXED!
3. Is there a way to fit a 8.4v NiMh battery without buying a hump pack and changing the straight battery hold down? (Trying to use a straight 7 cell I have)
4. My transmission rattles and stutters at low RPM/throttle even though I have cleaned and greased everything. Does anyone know why? FIXED
5. Are there metal gears available? I could not find any and would like to have an all metal gear assembly.
6. Does anybody know of some decent cheap upgrade shocks?
7. Where can I get the ball screw joints for the steering links (3mm)? I can not seem to find any.
8. What are some good brushed motors when I need to replace the old Venom?
9. Is there anything I should do before going brushless? (if I were to)
10. Are there roll cages for touring cars? (may consider making my own)

Please comment or post pictures. I would love to see what you have done to yours. Thank you for looking!

Ran the car a bit today. it runs LOUD..hmmm does anyone else notice that the bodies crack easily?

RE: TT01E Mods Help

I helped the moving loose body posts with a wire brace. The body doesnt bounce around as much.
Here are the pics!

RE: TT01E Mods Help

The tires mounted are super high profile Tamiya's, not sure what they are called. The rub on the chassis when turning so I'll have to shave down the chassis a bit.

Looks like tamiya rally blocks tires!
I have never had one of these TT01 cars but I believe there may be a conversion kit to make it a rally. I definitely remember seeing threads where others have done the conversion. If there isn't a kit, they would have swapped out the parts from another tamiya car to 'rallify' this one. Do a search ' how to convert TT01 to rally ' should give you the answers you need.
I can't really help much with the specific issues you have as I have never owned one. However I can say that when you need a brushed motor, the Tamiya 540 stock silver can is very reliable !
Also see if you can download the manual from tamiyausa.com. It will have all the part numbers that you can google for suppliers or check on ebay. They are usually available as its a popular car. I will try to post a link to the manual later tonight in case you can't locate it.

That some seriously high profile tires ! Looks like tires from a hummer or something :) it does look cool though lifted like that. These ar not rally blocks, they are much smaller than that (the tires I have in the escort mockup pics in the rwd escort thread are tamiya rally blocks). The rally blocks are just a tad higher profile than regular touring tires.<div></div><div>Its nice you got all these aluminum upgrades too, and I like the body :) you know how to link the pictures directly in the thread? You copy the IMG code in photobucker and put it here. It will be enclosed with brackets and IMG like this but minus the space:</div><div></div><div>[ IMG ] the img link [ /IMG ]</div><div></div><div>Or like this:

And regarding the body cracking easily, i think its a lightweight body, i.e. thinner so it makes sense it is slightly weaker. I have a TB-01 rally which is pretty different I believe in terms of drivetrain, but mine is fairly noisy too. It has all metal gears though.

where did you get your metal gears? I think my plastic ones might be slipping which is why my tranny stutters at low rpms. I dont want to wait to strip them.

I have Tamiya Block tires on gold wheels but these high pro ones I like better. I still have the stock 540 silver can but it doesnt run very smoothly so I swapped it out. Must be old. I think I have the manual...

thanks for the tip frederik!

Look at that clearance! It does flip a little more easy tho so I'll soften up the back.

the TB-01 Rally (2001 impreza wrc prototype) comes with metal gears. I dont know if the tt01 drivetrain is similar to the tb-01 though.

Anybody recommend a cheap and strong servo? my steering servo doesnt always return exactly to straight position so I have to do a lot of correcting and that leads to crashes. The stock one must be old.

actually the tranny and gears look the same. I just need to find the metal gears for sale and confirm the fit.

The front right bottom ball joint for the wheel hub keeps popping out which makes the outdrive disengage &gt;:(

Maybe e higher suspension binds and pop the balll out?  There is quite some angle to the suspension arms.

I didnt think the front had too much angle. its only the right though...Good thing I have brand new xtras. I will try them on to see if it was just a wear and tear problem.

I checked out the arm and discovered that the hinge pin was slightly bent. I swapped the pin with the upper one to see how it will do. The upper pin holes allow a bit more movement so I shouldnt have any problem. I wonder what bent it? Its pretty thick and strong for me to bend it back. I will see if the problem persists.

Not sure what shocks I have particularly but they are plastic bodied, Oil filled. The springs are pretty stiff but they leave a few millimeters of space when not resting on the ground. For some reason, The Yeah Racing aluminum shocks dont mount right. They also dont give the amount of clearance these plastic body ones do.

Regarding my weak non centering servo, I think I'll swap in an old non waterproof traxxas servo and see how it'll do.

RE: TT01E Mods Help

The Traxxas servo (2018) was definitely weaker so I stuck to the stock one. The bottom arm still keeps popping out so I replaced it. The ball joint had a lot of play in it. Also replaced the bent hinge pin.
Still no luck in locating a metal gear set. An aluminum motor mount is on my list tho.

as I haven't been oin on-road in a while I never saw this post but I will answer all I can
1) Buy a Flysky 2.4ghz radio for $20ish if t still has the stock 104BK ESC buy a cheap 6V 3A UBEC (usually like $7). For the 104BK disconnect the red wire on the servo plug, and plug the UBEC into the other 2 wire plug on the ESC, then plug the UBEC into the radio in the BATT port

2) Personally I modded my body mounts. In the front I use HPI RS4 EVO 3 body mounts(screwed into the bumper brace), and in the back the tamiya ones cut down. This allowed me to use HPI bodies with no mods :D

3)Don't think so Personally I run a 2S lipo which is about the same voltage as you get out of a 7cell hump pack.

4) hard to tell from description would almost need a video to tell if its normal, as the prop shaft does cause some rattling

5) yes I use slightly dremeled down DF-02 bevel gears in mine, with the crown gear. I had to grind the one part a tiny bit to get them to mesh properly on the bevel

6) Use HPI RS4 shocks I picked up for like $15 a set on ebay (just looked I see a few currently)

8) tamiya 27T silver can ;)

9) Upgrade to the metal bevel, and crown gear in the diffs. I also use CVD's, and steel diff outdrives on mine running a 9t 35A HW setup on 2S

10) never seen any

also agree with phax after looking at the pics that things too high up, and the suspension was never made to be that high. I've done similar to a RC and trashed the dogbones

The stock tamiya ESC wouldnt recognize a signal anymore so I swapped it out. The 2.4ghz conversion sounds pretty good.

I think I got the body mounts figured out, just darn those phillips screws stripping out.

I'll go lipo after I go brushless.

I'll take a look at the rear tranny again because the rear left wheel would stutter and stop out of sync.

Can I get DF02s as an aftermarket part? The whole set?

Do RS4 shocks allow for extra arm travel? I dont use the Yeah Racing ones because they only allow horizontal.

Better get myself some tamiya cans if Im not going brushless.

My dog bones and outdrives are already metal. They have (39) marked on them.

I'll see If I can make nerf bars or something.

I lowered the ride height a little more. I'll play with it and see how my tranny runs.

hmm heres some dude selling the set http://www.ebay.com/itm/TAMIYA-PLASM...item53f4a85c71

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...uct-id=5455040 Bevel
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...uct-id=3454029 Ring (out of stock)
the ring would just replace the one on the diff case

only dude that has the gears themselves on ebay is in the UK, and is charging 3X more than Tamiya...
