Real Vulcanized rubber tires for pan cars/Touring cars

I am a machinist/Tool & Die maker and have been an RC addict for years. About 10 years ago I became tired of replacing the foam tires that everyone was running on their rc cars. Because of this I designed molds that I could produce real rubber tires in the same dimensions as the foam. I have been running these tires for years and have been very pleased with them. The neat thing is that you can use off the shelf tire treatments to soften the tires to your liking. The tires are designed to glue onto your stock wheels. They are best on asphalt and cement. I have not tried them on carpet but I don't think they would work very well. I'm thinking about selling a few sets and let you guys try them out. I can ship 1/12 scale now and will be able to ship 1/10 scale in a week or two. I have not made the molds yet but would anyone be interested in a set for your touring car? Looking for some feedback. Let me know what you think.

This could make you a lot of money my friend, it's a very cool and clever idea

The 1/12 chassis pictured has a set that have been on it for about two years. They show some wear on the outside diameter but are still very usable. I will say they tend to get better as you run them to a certain extent. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1946589http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1946590http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1946591http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1946592

Was that a home made chassis?.. ive never seen anything like that before?

jeffpressley 12-11-2013 10:09 AM

Yes, This is a 1/12 chassis that I designed for my students. The idea behind this chassis was to build the absolute simplest rc car possible. I have designed/built broke cars for years and this is the compilation of all those design ideas into one simple but performance oriented chassis. When you reduce the complexity you also reduce the weight requiring less power to achieve the same speed. This also makes the car more crash worthy by reducing the impact force. The performance of this chassis/engine combination performs about like a stock 1/12 scale but will run 35 + minutes on a 2 cell 1000 mah battery. The entire chassis ready to run with a battery and body doesnt way much more than a 6 cell NIMH battery alone. I have designed a 1/24, 1/18, 1/10, and 1/8 scale also. My students and I have enjoyed these cars for years ( I teach Precision Machining in high school) and I have recently decided to start making a few chassis and selling them. These chassis will come with my rubber tires and machined aluminum wheels. I will also be selling the wheels and tire sets separate. I have not set the pricing on everything but will try and be as fair as possible. I can also make wheels and tires for your special applications.

Good job :-).. Can we see some of your other chassis..

I'm revising the others before I release them. I will have some pictures of the 1/10 in about a week. The one pictured is getting revised also with a standard car inrunner motor. The one on there works fine but I think most people would want a motor they are familiar with. It would also be a lot faster with the inrunner.

SledgeTitan 12-15-2013 10:40 AM

Cool! Do you make drift/grip tyres or just one kind?

jeffpressley 12-15-2013 06:02 PM

I can make any type of tire/wheels needed. I have 1/12 pan tires available now for $20.00 plus shipping for a set of four. 1/10 scale pan car tires will be available in two weeks or less for $25.00 plus shipping for a set of four. I'm designing the molds now for 1/10 touring tires and need some input from you guys on the different designs of rims available (were the tire mounts). My tires are solid and not caps that run foam inserts. I will have tire softener s and conditioners that will let you dial your tires in to what you like. This also allows you to get a lot of use from a set by running them way down if you are just bashing around parking lots. The tires must be designed to fit the rims. If a set of my tires fit hpi wheels will that fit most other touring car rims or do they vary a lot. Would you guys like the tires to fit rims like the foam tire come on or standard hpi type rims. I'm more familiar with pan cars than touring cars so any input would be appreciated. Let me add that my tires are designed for grip and not specifically for drift but may work ok for that on certain surfaces. I think they would work very good for spec class racing and would be very economical because of there longer service life.

Hello, I am looking for a set of tires for my 1/10 pan. Wide rears and narrow fronts. Its an old basic bolink chassis. I pulled it off the shelf and am rebuilding it to play with my kids. I used to run foam but found your post. I want to run long periods without replacing so often. I will be running mostly on cement but occasionally on asphalt. I am in NC also. I am close enough I could pick them up. Contact my email. [email protected]

At first glance this sounds like a great idea. My concerns would be how the car handles on a solid rubber tire. Running on a prepped smooth surface wouldn’t be a concern but a track with small imperfections such as cracks, bumps, or loose aggregate might make the car skip or something along those lines. Have you had any experiences with those conditions?

The track I currently run on is Tamiya America Raceway. There are a few guys that run the 1/12 RM01 out there but not many. The common statement is “if they made rubber tires for it I’d be out there”. People just aren’t excited about truing tires down and dealing with chasing the gearing. If these work well for racing it could be huge.

Also, I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the Speed Passion SP1 LM car. This is basically an ALMS body on a 1/10 pan car chassis (http://www.speedpassion.net/us/lm1lemans.asp). There are a number of guys running it in the Midwest and having a blast with it. I’ve read a number of statements and questions that are similar to the 1/12 scale guys, “any plans for rubber tires or does anybody make rubber tires for it?”. This could be a great market for you as well. I just thought that would be worth mentioning.

Personally I’d like to see something like this on the market. I think there are enough people that would buy into it, providing it can be raced hard. I’d be interested in trying a set out if the offer is still open.

Did you ever get any of the 1/10 scale rubber Pan Car tires made?

I'm looking for a set for an old RC10L.

Thanks!

Well just wondering the last post you had was 2013 . Has anything with the rubber tires transpired ? Are you manufacturing them?Is there a way to order .is it still an interest of yours? If there is a way to order please let me know . I would like to see about tires for 1/8 scale touring cars(xray rx8,mugen mrx5....) ? Front and rear.

I am interested in a front and rear set of your rubber tires for my 1/10 scale pan car. Are you still making them and if so how can i purchase as set?
Thanks Brandon

just the person i have been looking for.. Looking for some one to make me some custom wheels tires for my pan cars.. Pretty much dia... But deep dish and deeper back spacing .. Width "example" would be 2 _1/10 foam tires glued together... For bolink wheel pattern.. Need some tires that will hook up good.. Drag racing and speed runs with my pan cars.

Do you still make these tires?

Hello

wow I'm super impressed with your work...I'm restoring a old 1980's custom puller and it has very rare wheels that I can't find any replacements for...any way you could help me? Thanks, Cameron

I tried to post a few pics but it wouldnt let me. The wheels are about 5 inches wide off of an old pan car.
