I can get the remote dongle to show a bind but can not get the sim to show any movement on my laptop. The FMS forum page is shut own so no help.

Now that is an OLD piece of software (2004!) Your Taranis can be used as a conventional USB joystick. Just make sure to have a basic model created with at least 4 channels active (you can configure 8 on variable controls, and 16 more as "joystick buttons") - but I doubt FMS would be able to recognize more than a few channels. Looks like it can accept up to 8.
Plug the Taranis in using USB, and confirm in Windows devices that it is being seen as a joystick. You didn't note what operating system your laptop is running. If it does not recognize the Taranis, it may be suffering from old age too. But if it does, then see if FMS can be configured to use the "joystick" correctly - it does have that as an option. You'll be living a charmed life if the super old interface it uses can talk to the windows device driver.....
I just tried to get it to run by downloading the last version, and had some functionality, but got a driver error,,,and not up for chasing down the resolution for that.
But first order is to make sure you have a basic model completely setup in the Taranis, so it is actually outputting something to the rest of the system.
