Real flight G-3
 

My dad up graded to the 4.5 and gave me his old 3. I used it alot on his computer but on mine it doesn't fly the same. It seems like reaction time is slow and control is alot harder. Could this be a video card not being as good as the one he was using or is there something else I need to look at. My computer is new and seems faster than the one he was useing so I don't think it is the computer it self.

Just found the info on my card. It is a Nvidia Geforce 6150SE nForce430. I was surprised that it only has 128MB of memory. Ain't that a little low? Maybe the reason for the non-performance?? By the way I am not a computer tech by no means!

One of the biggest reasons applications run slow on systems that they migrated to is usually do to the new computer configuration. If there are many programs running in the "Background" then you we get slow or jerky response. If you know how try closing all virus programs, email programs, etc. before opening G3.

No, you can choose to disable the onboard card and install another one but it may, or may not be worth the effort/cost depending on the other hardware.

I had the same issue with G3 on a little 'puter I bought and it had the onboard video. While your specs might be showing 128meg of memmory, it is actually shared memmory with the rest of the computer rather than dedicated video memmory. Mine also was a bit short on the RAM and I suspect that is what's causing most of your issue. You'll either need to do some digging on your own or track down a slightly more computer savvy friend and see if you can't allocate more memmory to the video card and I doubled the RAM in that little computer (you really need at least 1Gb and a little more wouldn't hurt) which seemed to solve most of the problem. It still wouldn't run lots of background without issues but if you disable some of that stuff it should work with those mods.

RAM is pretty cheap and if those changes don't produce an acceptable performance, then you could try a newer/better video card if you want to and the extra RAM will most likely have been needed either way.

Oh this is assuming you're talking about a desktop computer, if it's a laptop you may be able to dedicate more memmory to the video card but changing it out or adding RAM isn't an option on a laptop...[:o]

I have done some invstigating and found that the version I have been running,the 3.0 had not been updatedsince I got it . It was registered in my dads name so I re registered it and up-dated to the 3.5 and did all the rest of that fun stuff. While it is still not the best, I find it somewhat acceptable if like you say I eliminate some of the background stuff. I am still looking at cards but don't think I have the power to run one any bigger or better. I gues if I want to get more realistic I will have to go to the field!
