Realflight interface with FMS?
 

Will the original (printer port) RealFlight G2 transmitter interface work with FMS?

I have the game port controller for Real Flight Deluxe and I use it with the help of A Radio Shack adapter into the USB port and run FMS with it. It took me a while.

I tried using the printer port version of the G2 interface with FMS without any luck... if you do find a way to make it work, I would also be interested to know how you do it. [8D]

The serial port (not a printer port) G2 controller works fine with FMS. You have to change the axis setting in FMS as they are not the same default settings. (i.e. left stick up an down is not the throttle).

This thread peaked my curiosity so I tried to use the USB Interlink Controller that came with my G2 software to run the FMS Ver 2.0 Beta 7 program.

The only option that came close was "joystick" ... beyond that it wasn't clear to me what changes should be made to the axis settings in FMS. As far as I could tell the program didn't even recognize the controller. For that matter it doesn't seem to respond to the joystick either.

Any suggestions?

I have heard that the USB controller for RealFlight does not work with any other programs. SOmething to do with how they wrote the driver. But, I do not have that one and can not say from first hand experience.

I can say the the serial port RealFlight controller works as a joystick in every program I have tried ... FMS, MS FLight Simulator, and MS combat flight simulator.

I didn't realize there was a serial interface. I thought the only ones were the printer port (LPT1) or the newer USB.

It's a gameport interface, not serial. It installs as a 4 axis 4 button joystick under windows, so it will work with FMS and all other simulators and games that uses the joystick as an input.

Oh well, I get the cast off my foot later this week so will be back to flying the real thing. I was interested in FMS to load a SPAD as there was nothing like that in the G2 RealFlight that I have.

Here is a question guys...just getting back into RC, have Realflight Rc Simulator from 1998 and have a new Futaba radio ...what do I use to connect my radio to my computer?

To control an R/C sim using your transmitter, you need one of the TX-to-PC interfaces, sold by many vendors.
Just pay attemntion to the interfaces compatibility: many (cheap) interfaces only work with FMS, a freeware sim, whose only advantage is its price (free). Some other interfaces, like the ones sold by www.milehighwings.com, support many different simulators, including pre-Interlink RealFlight.

BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION!!

I have RealFlight classic (the first one they came out with and the Tx that plugs into the printer port). I am flying FMS with no problem. Orginally I got it working but had no rudder and then I figured out that I had to customize the controler in the add menu. Here is how I did it:

1. Plug the Tx in
2. Go to My computer
3. Go to control panel
4. Go to printers and other hardware (or if you have a different version of windows it might give you the option of going on into step 5)
5. Choose Game controlers
6. Hit "Add"
7. Click on "Custom"
8. Select "Race car controler"
9. Where it says "Axis" then type in 3
10. Where it says "buttons" type in however many buttons/switches that is on the controler
11. Name the controler FMS or something you will remember
12. Now remove whatever controler that you have set and make the FMS controler active like you would any other joystick or Tx.
13. Calibrate that bad boy (it might say "move the wheel around" but just calibrate it as if you were calibrating RealFlight).
14. Go into FMS and pull down the "controls" menu
15. Select "Analog control"
16. Select "Joystick interface"
17. You might have to activate it by clicking the switch in the mapping and calibration section.

NOTE: Fly the airplane but some of my sticks were backwards. Figure out which ones are backwards and go back to the mapping and calibration page and fix it by assigning which channel goes where.
