Help me please.....slow FPS on AFP

Hi, im using AFP on my computer. Ita an old 550mhz pentiium 3. ive also got a nVidea ge force MX400 (64mb). This is in the operating limets of the slighly less complex scenerys (forest lake, the simple desert) and just out of the proper desert club. Ive get alll my scenery to the lowest possible, no trees or animals, no clouds no smoke either (nor exaust). however im only getting 9-15 FPS[:@]. any ideas why, ive tried a lower screen res, made no difference. Lower texture quality, it actually was FASTER at a HIGHER quality. no outer progams are running. nothing.

But, when i press 'T' i.e for trace, it speeds up to 25-30FPS for about 3-5 seconds, then slows down. Then i press it agin, does the same..............

its getting quite annoying now so any help would be greatly aprieciated.

Ian,

I know I am lame but your system is outdated. You need a faster graphic card and a faster CPU to handle great FPS at AFP.

Is your video card Open GL compliant?

yes, i know my setup isnt great. but can a 14 year old spending a few hundred quid on a plane right now really go out and buy a new computer tommorow.....no.

my graphics card is 64mb. AFP recomend a 32-64+ that means ive got one that works. AFP sugest a 400mhz prosseser speed+. i have a 500mhz, so i can run 2 scenerys.

see wot im getting at? a few weeks ago i managed to get 75FPS for a few seconds before reducing to 50. since i downloaded the update its gotten slower. could this be a cause

Ian,

Don't take for a rock what AFP reccommend. Its always what you need to barely run it...Make sure your driver are all updated and you run on open GL. Reinstall the software with the latest patch and see how it go.

That computer should run AFP fine. My parents computer, a Celeron 400 with 256MB of ram and a 32MB TNT2 runs it Ok, not great but it works. I would start by updating all your drivers. How much ram do you have? 256mb is about the min I would recomend. Then I wouldn't worry about it if it flys good enough for training.

ian is the V-Sync turned on. this makes the fps go very low on older computers

When I got AFP I had it on a Dell p3, 600mz, 768 Ram, 32mb graphic card and it ran the software but the planes flew very sluggish with FPS around 15-20. You could tell the computer was hold the software back. I then went out and purchased a new puter with a P4,2.660gig, 128mb graphic card. The software now runs the way it was design to and I,m getting FPS around 60-80 and its like night and day!

Not sure you will be able to get the software to run right on a puter with out enough grunt.

I actually didn't notice a huge difference between my parents computer and my computer. It does run better on mine but not enough that I would run out and drop $7-800 dollars for a new puter. I'm running a XP1600(1.4ghz or so), 512MB DDR, 128MB Ti4200, 7200rpm HD.

Ok. Here is my set up and my frame rate never went under 90FPS.

Intel P4 2.4 GHZ, 512 Meg Ram, Nvidia Gforce Ti 4600. I am running at maximum
resolution on 32 bit color. The graphics are splendid. I would like to see the sim
running on the latest graphic card like a Radeon 9800 Pro or Nvidia G-force FX.

Sometimes when I fly close 3D I get up to 250 FPS.

Ok, gotta chime in here.
I am running an athalon 1.7 gig- radeon 9600 pro- 768 meg ddr and an older 30 gig WD HD at 5600rpm.(cant wait to get a new
10000 rpm HD) With window xp. My frame rates stay 260-350.
One big trick is not to worry about AFP But tweak your system. Sounds to me like your system resources are eaten up.
Get rid of everything out of your system tray. That sucks up so much memory. Better yet go to this site and go through the tweaks.
You will be surprised what might happen.

Hope this helps.

Must edit myself.
The frame rates I stated were running 16 bit color. At 32 I get 130-280.

I don't know but it had very little effect on mine. Turning off the trees and animals, clouds etc, had more of an effect. The only time mine jumps to 300fps is when the clouds are disabled and the sky is the only thing in the backgorund of the plane. Otherwise it's around 100-150 fps. The fps depends on what is on your computer screen at the moment and how fast you are moving. The graphics board has to keep up with it all.

And remember just because you only see the sim on the screen does not mean your puter is not looking at everything else in the background.

RE: Help me please.....slow FPS on AFP

I am having the same problem. I am running a AMD-550mhz 128mb RAM radion 64meg graffics card.
Everthing turn off in system tray, no extra graffics on sim and I am running 10-15FPS on 16bit color as well. doesn't make a difference if I run my resolution up high or down low, Its always the same FPS.

The first day I had it I was running 24FPs and it was great. at 10-15FPS is just like its in slow motion.

I run in at my computer at work. So I can't drop me another mother board in the there. I use Macs at home, I don't feel like dropping another 500 or so on a computer. So I might end up selling my sim.

RE: Help me please.....slow FPS on AFP

I installed the aeropro update, and now I am running at 18-24 FPS. Its lot better.

I finally got my graffics card software installed today and DirectX9. But a VERY, very important program we use at work on this computer Wouldn't work at all. Luckily I backed up the program last week, and work was slow this week, so I only lost a little info. so I had to delete the graffics card software, directx9. and aeropro kept performing some error. So uninstalled everything, and deleted software, and restore the main computer program that we need.

I don't think I am going to screw with anymore. If I would have crashed that program, I could have easily got yelled at or fired. So I don't think I am going to try that again.

I really did like ti running at 24FPS, and if i could get my graffics card software to work, I probably could have gotten it up over 33 FPS. But its not worth the hazzle, and the stress that I endured today to try it again.

Right now I am gonna set back, and think about what i want to do. I got the money for a new computer, but I don't want to spend the money. So as of right now, I am going think awhile, about what I want to do. But I spent $200 on the sim, and 80 on the graffics card that just setting there.

RE: Help me please.....slow FPS on AFP

I reinstalled AeroPro today at work. I am running anywhere between 25-30FPS on the forrest lake scenery. I really like it at that. I didn't try an reinstall my graffics card software though. but I am sure if I could get my graffics card software up and running, and no conflicts with the other software thats needed at work, I am sure I could get a few more FPS. But I am happy with it running at 25-30FPS it flys real good.

one of the reason I don't want to buy another computer. At home I have 2-Macs, and they are great for what I do at home. I wanted the Aeropro for work. Not at home. I have enough to do at home. But at work, a lot of times I am just there doing nothing. So with aeropro, I can finally do something.

Sometimes at work, I take a plane to work and work on it, or cover parts of it. My boss is understanding when we don't have anything going on at work. he will basicly let us do what we want as long as the works done.:D:D
