RE: AFP is THE best...period.
come on, we all know we get it to work under xp. if i spend that amount of money i just expect something that works out of the box and afp did not work out of the box. you need extra hardware, extra patches and all that stuff - that's just 75% of the road. i wouldn't mind of xp is on the market since yesterday but it's 3 years now and they still didn't solve the usb issue. certainly, dx could be a dead end raod as well but look at it this way: the days of opengl on a regular pc are counted in small numbers and that's affecting the security of my investment. if directx dies in 5-10 years - well, the sim payed off at least. but 1-2 year from now is a little short term thinking for a software. besides, it's not directx or opengl that makes things nice and shiny, it's the programmers capabilities. in my company, we have 2 profit centers. one is working on large scale unix based software using opengl and the other section is adapting the same software to the pc market. my developing people switched to directx last year when the longhorn problem became dramatic. believe me, it's not the 3dengine providing the nice results, it's the quality of people using it. gisbert

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Running on XP here without any issue. Strange.

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Mine runs perfect on XP. Ran right out of the box unlike your statement. Awesome product.
If anyone is looking for G2 I've got an almost new one. I would just feel bad for selling it to someone. |
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
I beg to differ with you gilbert on this one. Realflight doesn;t work for everyone out of the box either. In fact one could make a good case that windows didn;t exactly work well right out of the box either. As far as quality of programmers for AFP and G2 etc . . . i won;t even go there. AFP runs like a sim G2 runs like a video game . . . now which programmer did the better job? G2 is patched just as often as AFP so don;t come to this forum complaining about AFP's programers are somehow not as good because they have patches on their product. As far as where it will go with longhorn . . . well we'll see. You might want to explain yourself to the folks as well, becuase I see no issues from anyone with XP and AFP. If you are trying to run AFP from your USB port then you are trying to do something outside the box anyhow so why do you expect there not to be issues. Their adaptor hooks into the serial port if i am not mistaken . . . what aftermarket product are you using to make it work out of your usb?
|
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
hold it. i don't want to start a afp-g2 comparison here and i didn't say g2 is any better in xp compliance. you are right with your serial port issue - but i don't have any! i'm one of the people making the only growing pc segment grow even more, i'm a notebook user. just got 4 dell's comming into my company that don't have serials anymore. so i have to find the nearest radio shack and get these usb converters. adding this to the afp price plus the time wasted to find out. as i said, nice flights, nice gimmics but i would buy a tv set with these out of the box characteristics i would return it to the vendor. as i told you, only the third best solution. getting my xtr tomorrow and see how this works for a change. gisbert

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Can the Tx from G2 be used in lieu of the AFP Tx ? I do not have a spare serial port and have 3 unused USB ports
|
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Ive been told it will not work.

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Thanks for the reply John.

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Chris, you will still need to plug the AFP dongle into a serial port. The dongle is actually a "copy protection" measure by Ikarus. I think you can use the RFG2 controller but you will have to set it up as a joystick in AFP. I think future AFP versions will have USB connection. All the best

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Serge, I found these videos made by the same professional 3D flyer comparing the physics of AFP and XTR
http://63.246.139.60/reflex.wmv http://63.246.139.60/ikarus.wmv Have a look at them ! Here are comments from the pilot : - AFP was the sweet honey right out of the box of the four SIMs. It flies like a light, stable, big plane right out the gate. And, I like it for IMAC too because it responds like an unloaded plane when you unload it (in the snaps). I think this is the SIM that is most likely to please the guy that only wants to buy one SIM. Let me say that if I was trying to learn 3D maneuvers... there is no doubt that I'd get AFP and would probably be none too keen on XTR. - On to Reflex XTR...The planes are alot harder to fly out of the box They're kinda harder to fly at all times. |

Coooooool!!!! Thanks Mike!

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
I bought Real Fight G2 with all 5 addons last year. I had a laptop running XP, and hoped that it all worked
out, because my laptop is not set up for expansion. The results have been great. As I live in Wyoming, I`ll probably never be able to try the other simulators. I would like to see how they could improve on G2. I`m a sport flier, so I probably wouldn`t notice the nuances between simulators.. I haven`t begun to totally explore G2 in the last six months. How could anyone evaluate something this complex in less than a year to be able to make a comparison with another?? Keep `em flying Gary |

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
G2 has been nice for me. It gave me a good start. I still fly it to keep limber.
But GP really pi**ed me off with their lack of customer service. Treated me like I was some kinda of criminal. Plus Add-On #3 I could never get to work. I dont need hit over the head twice to go look somewhere else. Im willing to try something different. I'll check into this AFP. Thanks for the post. PS. Serge, Dude, please get rid of your avitar. It is very distracting!! :) |
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
It distracting because it's distorted. :D

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
I think Serge should post the fill size photo of his avatar so we can 'inspect' it to see what's causing
the 'anomolies'.... :D:D:D Ron |
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Ron,
There is a place on the Internet where the full sized photos are displayed. Apparenly she did a a photo shoot for advertisement of a particular aircraft company. Only one word to describe it.......Impressive! ....and Im not talking about the plane! :) |
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
We better stick to the thread or the mods will shut it down.

RE: AFP is THE best...period.
Whoooa! Your right STL.
I forgot how touc......... My apoligies. :) I cannot find much on AFP. No screenshots, no features, not even any pricing. I did watch some videos, but they were all of 3D stuff. I dont do that kinda flying. Is this RC flight sim good for beginners and intermmediate RC pilots? Thanks OK I found it! Where does it describe the plane models that come with the SIM? |
RE: AFP is THE best...period.
If you have any direct questions feel free to call, phone number is on the website.
Thanks! |
