FMS setup for heli
Because I've never flown a heli, I'm not entirely sure how it is supposed to handle in real life, but naturally I want to set up FMS correctly.
I'm using mode 2 and flying tail in. At the moment left stick forward makes the model rise in the air, left stick to the left makes the tail spin around to the left (clockwise). The right stick to the left makes the model tilt to the left and turn left. Right stick back makes the model raise its nose in the air (like a plane). Is this correct? The last thing I want to do is get competant with the controls wrong and then crash the model when I get it... |
RE: FMS setup for heli
The only one of those that sounds wrong is your tail (rudder) control on the left stick (left/right). The rudder control should move the NOSE of the helicopter, not the tail in the direction you push the stick when it is flying away from you (tail in).
In fact I made the very same mistake when I started to learn helis in a sim and for a couple of weeks I had the rudder steering the tail, not the nose. Then I read a message like this and realised I'd got it wrong and trying to un-learn the way I had it and adapt to the new way was quite a brain-bender. While the direction of tail control doesn't really matter when you're just learning to hover, when you move on to forward flight it makes sense for the directional control to move the plane in the direction you actually want to go! RE: FMS setup for heli
Thanks! :D
That should hopefully prevent a horrible experience when I finally get my real heli (hopefully not too far away). |
