How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
It seems like everyone that is talking about reflex only talks about the helicopters. Im not really interested in the heli's and want to use it just for the planes. So how do they handle? Also any more information or opinions fo the simulator would be appreciated, im trying to justify spending the 200 bucks on it.:D

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
It seems the consensus here is that Reflex XTR is very expensive but doesn't have the best physics model. RFG2 shares this problem according to most of the posts I've seen on the subject, but the graphics aren't wuite as good. G3 is supposed to be the best of both worlds with many new features (read: "eye candy"). AeroFly Pro seems to be the current (as in, available right this minute) defacto standard for the best compromise between graphics and excellent flight physics, which might be of interest if your focus is 3-D in particular. I've only used G2 so far, but will probably buy AFP based on the recommendations of the people on RCU. G3 is too expensive for what it does, as far as I'm concerned. Just my $0.02.

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
Oh great, I wasent even thinking about AFP. Now iv got another choice. From what iv herd Reflex had the most realistic physics, especialy with user created planes. But the only one iv ever used is Real Flight G2. If you where in my shoes, and wanted the simulator that modled the planes the best, which one would you get? And im not even considering G3, that is way to much money.

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
I originally got XTR cos I was principally flying helis at the time but since the advent of 3D foamy shockflyers I'm only really flying planes these days and I find that the planes in XTR (especially the downloads of 3D foamy shockies from www.rc-sim.de) work almost exactly like the real models. The physics are brilliant - very realistic and I can now hover and torque roll to my hearts content - with all the practice that XTR allowed it must have saved TONS of repairs!

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
Remember that any sim is just a computer program, wich means you can theoretically get a brick to fly like a butterfly and vice versa. In other words; it all depends on the bloke who has designed the plane. However, if he has done his homework right I feel that the planes in XTR acts as close to real life as you can possibly get. ( Afterall, you must accept that it's just a picture on a screen! ;))
Physics? Well, I've downloaded planes that behave exactly like their real counterparts that I've flown, but I've also tried out real "nightmares". I haven't tried AFP, so I can't compare, but if it's better than XTR in the physics dept., it must be a sensation! Not to say XTR is perfect, but what little it lacks in physics I can easily live with. I feel the graphics make up for that, and after a session on the XTR I truly feel like I've been out on the field flying. It's simply stunning! :D Sverre |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
There seems to be some confusion here in that Reflex is being confused with the one that has the physics wrong... It does not... Granted, it is not the real thing but at times it is very hard to tell... It is as close to the real thing as I have seen... I have owned FMS, RF1 and RF G2 and now the reflex... Reflex kills the others BUT there is no where near the models around for it as G2 and much of the install ends up being German... Not the models or flying so no need to worry... It is more the folder names and what not... The flight characteristics and physics are excellent... Even the Fokker Dr 1 has the flat bottom wing problems when inverted... It is an outstanding value in that it costs less than G2 with the price for the add ons... I hate that it has no transmitter of it's own but it is a small price to pay for such an excellent produce...

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
Well thanks allot guys now i cant decide between Reflex and AFP. Is there any one out there that owns, or has owned, both of them? It would be cool to here a side by side comparison of the two. Cause right now all i can really gather is, they both have great physics, reflex looks better, but AFP is cheaper. Am I missing anything?

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
I have played both. Played mind you
The jet in XTR flew at 40 mph full power (the worlds first slow flyer jet?!) AFP is very nice but it ran toooooooooo slow on my computer (7 fps) The comparison will be AFP deluxe and Reflex XTR. I cant wait will I get my computer (100 fps plus baby) |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
I have Aero Fly Pro and really like it.
A friend came over with the reflex sim and we loaded it on my computer and ran it so we got a direct comparison on the same computer. After flying the Flip 3D I can say it flies more like the real thing compared with aircraft on AFP. I still love AFP but Reflex got me more precise for 3D flight. Just my observation. The jury's out on what my next sim will be. 2.4 gig processor, 512 mb ram, 128 meg graphics card. |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
I have registered as a member at www.rc-sim.de , hoping to be able to download a plane for the XTR. But I get the message "You don't have permissions to open this file" even when I'm logged in.
Also: Where do I put the file when downloaded? You have to turn off your firewall first, THEN download. THEN copy all those files to C:\Program Files\REFLEX\Flugzeug\

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
Ooops. I did discover that after i asked. Now everything went just fine.
Thanks Finn |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
I have downloaded many of the planes, but have found that in torque roll training, the planes are extremely stable, when compared to the Katana's that come with the simulator. Which is correct??? I have also noted that the elevator and rudder throws, for example, are nowhere near as extreem, on the downloads, as the models we fly for real. I think it is the Funtana that when the elevator is changed to throws of 45 degree's, the elevator effectiveness increases to 183%. This seems odd to me. Has anyone else noticed this? I have never flown a Funtana, though I do own one that I hope to have ready this spring, but is a Funtana really as stable as the downloaded model show's??? I would be interested in knowing how people are modifying these planes to fly right. Perhaps we should have a thread, just on recommendations for these downloads. Oh, I also noticed that in AFP Deluxe, the Shock flyers are very difficult to hold in a hover, but the XTR Shock Flyer that I downloaded, is very happy in a hover. Which is right? Thanks for your input!

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
xtr is the best and cheapest sim:eek:
184 dollars with your choice of adapter, eithe futaba square, round, jr, hitech or aitronics AFPD with futaba square would cost 191.99 g3 is 200 |

I have both and I sold my afpd at a loss to get my precious reflex xtr http://store.xtremercproducts.com/re...simulator.html 184 its actually the cheapest simulator out right now |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
AFPD is cheaper Alkaline - Look at OMP's website. $169.95 for AFPD and $11.95 for the Futaba adapter (not everyone even needs this). That's a grand total of $181.90, and shipping is free.
You were already corrected on this by another thread Alkaline, did you not see that? |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
Well, that sux! I am due to recieve my Reflex sim this afternoon... just waiting for big brown to get here! I bought mine off e-bay for $187.50 Darn it! I wish i would have seen this thread earlier! O'well what's done is done (see the thing is mine is slightly used) I could have recieved it bran-new! Anyway, i own AFP-Deluxe myself and personally love it, however the 3-D ships seem ballony to me. I could not resist getting both to try them side by side and see the difference. I have read so many good reports on this sim that i had to see for myself which is better, hope it's all i heard it is!

RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
the flip 3D in XTR is a PoS, and the "3D" planes, stick full "down" in and its just goes mental

AFP-Deluxe Anyone interested in a copy of reflex with a 9C square adaptor let me know (PM me and we can make arrangements) I in my opinion enjoy Aerofly more than Reflex... I was actually disapointed. OH Well! It's for sale!! |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
Back to the original topic, is there any good XTR video showing its capability in a range of 3D maneuvers like rolling harriers, harriers, torque roll, waterfall, etc ? Thanks
|
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
dont look for a good waterfall vid on XTR:eek:
theres one on the other thread (comparison one) and its just laughable the realism. |

ORIGINAL: edible_engine dont look for a good waterfall vid on XTR:eek: theres one on the other thread (comparison one) and its just laughable the realism. I saw that. It doesn't tumble crazy like that unless you change the airplane characteristics silly. I tried the same thing in XTR tonight and it does not behave like that. |

After trying both, I was lucky enough to get 140 for a brand new sealed copy of AFPD, and used the money to get reflex, Never looked back, its so much better and planes fly realistically and didn't have bugs like inverted rub your whole plane agaisnt the ground like a snake slithering around on its belly... My friend wants a copy, where is your add on rcu? |
RE: How are the planes in Reflex XTR?
i dont do 3d, i just want a sim where i can practice basic flight and then normal aerobatics and helis for down the road,
i have/had afpd but didnt like it, because the wind would just blow the planes around and make them weathervane WHILE ON THE GROUND AND IN GRASS! its for sale btw, right here at rcu, look me up so i ordered reflex xtr |
