The 3D manuevers are greatly improved over G2. The sim looks like a winner!

ORIGINAL: lsnover

You guys that have G3. How is it for 3D Maneuvers compared with G2?

This is why I ordered it, everything else is secondary.

Thanks!

RE: INSTALLED G3

Just installed and used G3 for an hour or so. No doubt about it...this sim will need a high-end video card/fast machine to run well. I had to turn-off several graphics options, and tweak to get the frame rate acceptable on my machine. 64-bit Athlon 64 3200+ with an nVidia FX5200 128MB graphics card, which, in this day and age (got computer almost a year ago) is now a "bottom-end" card supplied with lowend machines....this card is now about 49.00 bucks.

I've determined I won't be satisfied with the 6600GT card (mid-range) I was looking at, and now will only be satisfied with the 6800GT, or equivalent, basically, most top-tier cards costing from 350.00 to 450.00 bucks or so.

The graphics engine this sim requires, to run with all the wondrous graphics at high-resolution enabled, will have to be costly.

You may disable lots of graphics intense objects/scenery, reduce resolution and such, and get this sim to "run" on slower machines, but getting a taste of what this sim does with all graphics enabled, has prompted me to get a decent graphics card to use G3 to its fullest.

I would buy G3 again, if given the choice.

RE: INSTALLED G3

I have finished installing all components of G3 including add on's 1 through 5. On my system, it runs flawlessly. I have a 3.0 GHz p4, 1 gig ddr ram, and just replace the vid card with an ATI X800 Pro with 256 MB gddr ram. It is awesome. As of now, I am not impressed with the 3D capabilites out of the box. I will require tweaking. The problem I am noticing is that the planes, the Yak in this case, tends to tip stall easily. I will see if I can get it to fly like my 40% Carden Edge 540.

RE: INSTALLED G3

Joe:

That's the first thing I noticed, about 5 seconds into my first flight...lots of aircraft in the sim tip-stall and snap. Fortunately, tweaks may be done!

I've got to get that vid card...I've got an athlon 64 3200+ system with 1 gig ram, but the card is nVidia FX5200 128 MB...last year's technology.

Thanks for the report!

RE: INSTALLED G3

Joe:

What is your frame rate at max resolution/refresh you are able to run? With aircraft close to the ground so all objects (ground/sky) are in the picture, netting your slowest frame rate?

Is there ANY jerkiness/jitter at all?

Thanks!

Charles

I want to order the G3 but do not want to upgrade my computer. Maybe you computer Gurhu's can tell me if my computer is OK. Here is what I got, I think.

Intel Pentium 4 ( 3.0 GHZ )
Windows XP Pro
1GB DDR2 ****M @ 533MHZ
128MB PCI Express X16 ATI Radeon X300 SE

I am not a great computer expert, so maybe this is not all the info you need.

Don:

Your machine looks OK, but you are definitely going to need a much better video card, unless you disable a LOT of graphics on the sim. Some users may accept that, but personally, since seeing what this sim can do with most all graphics enabled at hi-res, I'm getting a better card...another 400-500 bucks, but...it's only money.

Don, your video card is new but very low-end. It's the slowest of ATi's newer chips designed for entry-level work pc's. Not much faster than a GF MX/5200 series. I would suggest at least an X600 series or low-end X800 card to play G3 with any features turned-on.

RE: INSTALLED G3

my comp is a laptop. 3.2 p4 ati 9600 pro video gig o' ram ran g2 real good. seems g3 taxes the setup a good bit more. on the gadgets thing my fps looks in the 20s most of the time. video hiccups a couple of times when i first start the game and take off my plane, then is completely fine from then on. hope a patch in the future fixes that. the main things so far is i cant register online. several people have complained of this in realflight forum. also, no helis at all. even installed an add on and it didnt include the raptor heli. that sucks but they are supposed to have the helis ready this spring. overall, the game is more refined and better looking. planes do handle better imo. and the break into pieces in a crash. gliders seem more true to life as well. should be a great sim when it gets patches and helis

Wouldn't you know it, I've had the computer for 2 months and already it's out of date, $400 + $200 = $600 that's a new DA 50 engine, I don't think so, but thanks for the info. [&o][&o][&o]

you do need a very high end video card to run the g3 right. there are 3 of us that have the g3 and with out a really good video card the g3 is useless.:(

Excellent processor, equal to the P4 on all levels. How well any game will run also depends on the subsystem too. Hard Drive performance, Graphics Card Speed, Chipset, Memory Speed, etc.

I am thinking about getting G3 but would like to know opinions about my setup and how everyone thinks G3 will run on it:

Dell Dimension 4600 Series, Pentium 4 at 2.8 GHz
512 MB DDR ****M at 333MHz
128MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card

Be gentle please.....however, I would like it to run very well.

Thanks in advance.;)

RE: INSTALLED G3

HarleyFlyer:

I've got the nVidia FX 5200 card on an athlon 64 3200+, and the card is woefully inadequate, unless you have graphics set low, clouds gone, objects gone and and no smoke, etc., etc., etc.

It will run with all objects enabled, lowest settings, but the frame-rate is pathetic until all you have is sky and clouds while flying, and even then it is a bit "jerky".

I'm having fun with the TOC Extra 300, and Extra 330 on high rates, practicing torque rolls, harriers and such. Have all add-ons, and there are some decent aircraft in there, but I haven't found but a few aircraft that come with G3 I care for.

I haven't flown 3D much, am a 3D beginner, but I don't have any issues with the 3D physics that practice couldn't cure, but the 300TOC and 330 seem to fly ultra-smooth in 3D, very nice.

I'd recommend 1 gig of ram on the Dell, though. I'm going to slap-in an ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum, if one can be found...at a decent price.

1GB Ram at 400
I got XP Pro, XP Home is terrible for me
Hope this gave u a better idea
And I believe I have this chipsets K8T800 + VT8237

Thank U

Well...after much hand-wringing, and not being able to find an Radeon XT800 Platinum edition card in stock most anywhere (at a decent price point), I've ordered the GeForce 6800 GT 256 mb video card @newegg with free doom 3 bundle for 399.00.

I'm hoping this makes G3 "fly" (no pun intended) the way I must have it.

Better make something fly for that price. I fear the only flying that is improving with G3 is the dollar bills flyin out of my wallet! ;-)

I have not opened mine, and I'm 90% close to sending it back and ordering AFP Deluxe. I sent Realflight an e-mail last Wed. and have not received any replies as of today. Quite disappointing.

I Just read a post that Some are having the same problem with AFP
needed a stronger video card, you might want to ask around if you
really want to go with AFP Deluxe. I will never bash AFP sounds pretty
good. Heck I might even get it one day..I just wish folks would stop
bashing G3  ALL these programs will have there problems , even G2
did for a while, let them get it sorted out .;)

Jeff:

I'm not bashing the product, just the support and the marketing. I'd like to hear more about how G3 really operates in comparison to AFP before making up my mind. I like the G3 instrutor feature, but I want something that is going to be real good for 3D, and I don't like the lame rebates for current G2 owners.

Thanks!
