New G2 user - Advice?
 

I just bought G2 from another RCU member. I have a P3 @ 866, 512 mb PC133 RAM, 16 mb vid card (NVidia, not sure which) running Windows ME. Not sure what FSB is running at. I'm not into comp's that much but I can get around pretty good.

Any advice for me before I install it? I'm expecting it to come in this wednesday. I can upgrade the video card if you guys think it absolutely has to be done but if I can get by without doing so that would be ideal. I am going to buy my Cessna trainer in the morning from the LHS and I don't have very much cash at all right now. If any of you can think of any problems I might run into and have suggestions on how to mitigate or eliminate them please let me know.

I looked at G3 and had a new comp on order but personal circumstances won't allow for the new comp and starting in the hobby at the same time. I think I chose wisely by deciding to go with an older version of RF and getting a decent trainer rather than playing on a new comp with a sim that costs $200+ and not having any planes to fly.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help you guys might be able to provide....

Thanks for the reply. Not very helpful but thanks anyway. In case you didn't read my original post I am unable to buy a new comp (or perform extensive upgrades) right now and I have made the decision to run G2. I am looking for helpful feedback.

I know plenty of people have and are running G2 and enjoy(ed) it. I would like to hear from anyone who has run G2 on a system similar to mine and any problems they may have encountered and how they were able to work around them. Additionally if anyone is a comp guru and can advise me before I install on hardware issues you might see. I can dig around and get mores system info.

If you're going to tell me to run diff software at least tell me how long you ran G2 and why you hate it so much. If you haven't ran it how can you tell me it's no good? You can provide anecdotal evidence all day long ("my friend said..." or "Suzy told me Jane told her"....) but so can I. I've read tons of posts both here and on other sites about how good G2 was/is. In fact G2 is what the LHS is still using to train new flyers such as myself. I am sure they will upgrade to G3 as soon as they upgrade their comp.

I know there are a lot of really helpful people on here (I've already been helped by a few). I'm looking forward to hearing from them. I don't want this thread to turn into a G2 vs. XTR vs. AFPD vs. G3...etc... All I'm looking for is a little help.
