AFPD Question
I am trying to modify the Yak 55 that I downloaded to be similar to the specifications of the Extreme Flight Yak 54. When I do a "save as" the paint scheme goes to white....no paint scheme at all. Does anyone know how I avoid losing the paint?
Thanks in advance. |
RE: AFPD Question
You can only modify the paint schemes with an external program like photoshop or fireworks.
Did you install the latest patch? |
RE: AFPD Question
STLPilot,
That was the problem. I downloaded the patch and I have my paint scheme now! Thanks!! |
RE: AFPD Question
STLpilot... How many programs do you have running on the computer you use for your flight sim. Hit the keys CRTL ALT & DELETE It will show you. Is over 30 not good or does it not matter? Thanks Capt,n

RE: AFPD Question
Yes it does matter.
You don't want more then 15 running. |
RE: AFPD Question
Next question.... I have over 30....which ones can you eliminate and have the computer work? Thanks. Capt,n

RE: AFPD Question
You can go to msconfig (Start, Run, then type in mscofig), then go to the Startup tab. This will give you a list of the files that run and clear up some of the mystery. Some programs also start up from other location. This is all with Win98 but you should be able to find the same info with XP. Basically, you can usually (not always) close most everything except SYSTRAY and EXPLORER. It really depends on the individual computer and what the open programs are doing.
Also, you should be able to close most if not all the programs that show up in the system tray in the lower right of the screen. |
RE: AFPD Question
^^^^^^ What he said ^^^^^^^........ i have only two programs running on startup...SYSTRAY and EXPLORER....and i run 98SE.
I'm pretty sure XP needs a few more programs running but i'm not sure which since i don't use it. But once i upgrade to XP i will make a list of what is needed. |
RE: AFPD Question
Using 2000xp home ed. What about the warnings not to...this may prevent other programs not to work?
|
RE: AFPD Question
There's a program called End It All that will shut down everything but Explorer and Systray. I use it before I run any FS programs. I'm on Win98SE and has worked great. I'm not going to XP, the idea that MS can go into my computer and erase files they don't like is a bit much for me. 98SE has worked fine for me for many years.

RE: AFPD Question
End It All was a great utility for 98SE but I haven't found anything like it for XP unfortunately.

RE: AFPD Question
We have a extra computer just collecting dust. It is a windows 98. It does not say se. It is a IBM AMD K6 2/333 Would it be possible to install a game card in it and or add/ 98SE to it? Seems like parts for the window 98 systems should be cheap by now? Thanks Capt,n

RE: AFPD Question
You can get Win98SE (Second edition) at any computer show, and it's really cheap. It was probably the most stable system until XP came out. If you're set up OK, it runs fine and you don't get the "blue screen of death", unlike the previous versions of Windows. DO NOT GET Windows Millenium, it's a horror when trying to run games. It's "Lock up city" and a real pain in the butt. You need to check on what type of video card you have in the computer and see if it meets the spec's of the game. After the CPU and motherboard, the video card is the most expensive item. Then, check on the kind and amount of RAM that is installed. Just remember, if your system just meets the minimum requirements of the game, it will run, but you"ll have to reduce or turn off so many features that it might not be much fun.
If you shop at computer shows and build it yourself, you can get a real good "one generation behind" gaming computer for around $600. Most of the money will go for the CPU/motherboard and video card, you don't want to skimp on either. BRG, Jon |
RE: AFPD Question
I have a Graphics card now. It is PCI works good in my HP. But I want to see if i can get the IBM going for gaming. I have to check things out before I try it. thanks Capt,n
