First version of realflight question
 

Greetings group:
I have a friend with the first version of Real Flight, he just purchased a new computer and wants to use the sim.
Is there any way to hook up the controller from the old pin interface to usb? He is quite happy with the old version and would like to use it.
Furthermore his new machine is quite modest and will deffinatly not preform with G3.
If there is an addapter cord that will work or a new controler with a usb port I would sure appreciate input.

Hello,

If it is the version of the RealFlight controller that connects to the gameport on the computer your friend might want to look for a gameport-to-USB adapter. As I am located in Sweden it is a bit difficult for me to say where he can get one, but I would guess your local computer or electronics hardware store might be the place to start looking at least. I have got an adapter like that myself, and it is simply a short cable with a gameport at one end and a USB connector at the other. Have not used it in a long time though.

We have got an old PC in our club house which is running a very old version of RealFlight. Not sure if ours is the very first version or somewhat later, but the controller has a gameport connector and not USB. It might be the same version as your friend has. Our computer has a gameport though, so no need for an adapter.

I have used this with the gameport version of G2 and it worked fine. I'm sure there are other companies with similar products too ... this is just the one I used.

Thanks for the replys gents.
I will have him try it. I was hesitent to have him get one because I tried one on a Thrustmaster game stick and it didn't recognise the connection for my home computer running FS2004 when I purchased my machine.

Then, it's possible to use one of the universal TX-to-PC interfaces sold by many vendors. Just be careful and avoid "FMS only" interfaces, which will not work with RealFlight Classic any other simulator (except for FMS, CockpitMaster, and RC Plane Master, where they are natively supported) without some crappy freeware drivers. I'm using a USB interface from MileHighWings.com with RealFlight Classic/Deluxe/G2 on Windows XP box.
