Can the G3 interlink controller be used with my G2 software

I was just told today that the interlink plus(G3) controller will not work with G2. Also, you can not buy that controller seperately. The info comes from Knife Edge(makers of Realflight). I too was wondering the same thing and just happened to ask them.
