Reflex XTR heli setup
 

I just got Reflex XTR delivered yesturday...tried it out last night...SCHWEEEEEET!
I do have some questions about setting up the radio for helis though. Since Im not a heli pilot, i dont know which channels are normally assigned to what. I think I have them figured out well enough to hover and such, but no tricks. Is it possible to perform any advanced maneuvers in the heli with a normal 4-6ch aircraft remote?

I am not a heli flyer myself yet but I do use Reflex and recently bookmarked some links for initial set up and heli instructions for future reference. I never thought about putting pitch on the turnnob for flaps...That helps charlie..thanks! :)

Ok, i tried putting Pitch on the turn-knob usually used for flaps....but with it set that way, it didnt matter what I had throttle set at, I had to increase pitch to get it to go up. Am I doin something wrong there? Also, What does "Gyro Sensibility" do exactly?

Can anyone answer my post above? Charlie..with the setup that you screenshoted, are you able to perform advanced aerobatics? If so, is it a normal transmitter or a heli transmitter?

Hey Hornetnz,
While I am only slightly above your knowledge in heli's, I'll attempt to help. Usually you would set your collective to the throttle channel that you normally use for planes. Rudder would be assigned to tail rotor, and the right stick is set to tilt the heli exactly as a plane would react in flight... fwd= nose down, left= left side down..etc etc.

Now, without having looked at how they suggested you set up your heli, I'll give my advice: First, if XTR has it available, make sure you are flying in fixed pitch mode to start out with. This maintains your rotor system at a set pitch angle for the blades, and you gain lift by advancing your throttle (rotor) speed.

With your setup as it is, I am thinking that it is not fixed pitch, but you can fly it like it is... just bring down your throttle until it is about 1/4. Now trim your rotor blade pitch until you are just short of lifting off. (i.e. your tail starts to wiggle a bit as the skids start to lose friction with the ground) Now you can leave the pitch set and learn how to fly with a fixed pitch. Just increase throttle to gain rotor speed, and thus lift.

You will not be able to perform inverted hovers like this though. In order to do this, you would need to move your rotors past flat pitch, and reverse the thrust (naturally). I would suggest learning the basics first though, as you'll just frustrate yourself trying to do aerobatics before you understand the core flight characteristics of a heli.

If you want to do 3d once you have hovering etc down, you can learn more about CCPM mixing on many different sites. Cheers.

Thanks for the explanations...Ive gotten heli flight and hovering down pretty ok. But what I havent figure out how to do is reverse the thrust.
