G2 and new Nvidia Detonator drivers
I recently upgraded to the new Nvidia Detonator drivers because I just bought Unreal Tournament 2k3 and my old drivers would not work with it.
Now G2 does not work. When I start the game, the music starts and the G2 screen comes up, then the sound stops and the screen goes back to my desktop without any errors or anything. Does anybody know if there is a problem with G2 and the newest Detonator drivers? If so, anybody know when there will be a patch to fix it? I play Unreal much more so if theres no fix soon, Im gonna sell G2. This game costs 5 times as much as any other game so they better show me that it is worth it by actually supporting it with patches etc. Thank you. |

G2 and new Nvidia Detonator drivers
I posted this last week. Hope it helps.
On 9/29/02 I upgraded my system's video card from a Geforce2MX 200 to a Geforce 4 Ti4200. In doing so, Realflight ceased loading completely. I got the error 'Realfight. TMP0.exe has generated errors. Windows is generating a log file'. I tried many suggestions from this and other forums without success. Greatplanes technical support suggested upgraded my G2 to G2 interlink in an effor to solve my problem. After much patient struggle, Alex with Greatplanes technical support, suggested that I use his realflight.INI file. After getting it, we made changes to the section called [Direct 3D] one value at a time. When we changed the setting called 'UseHardwareVertexProcesing=Yes' to 'UseHardwareVertexProcesing=No' the problem went away. I then tested all versions of the video driver with this new setting and G2 works great with the latest version of Nvidida's drivers. My purpose for this post is to share this titbit incase this is what is causing similar errors with the Nvidia based Geforce cards. Hope this helps. P.S. Here is my system config: Abit KT7A ver 1.2 AMD 1.3G CPU (Thunderbird) 512 MB RAM (PC133 ****M) 2x40GB HD Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer 5.1 12X DVD ROM drive 1.44 FD SIIG 4port 1394 card 10/100 Mb NIC Windows 2000 SP3 G2 2.00.570 interlink __________________ Propnuts rule |
G2 and new Nvidia Detonator drivers
There are issues with NVIDIA drivers and Microsoft. I have been fighting known issues between Windows 2000 and Windows XP boxes for about 3 months. Microsoft acknowledges that there are problems with certain software that they sell. That is MS Flight simulator and some of their other titles. However I have experienced problems with other software from Adobe, 3d games like Unreal, Video Editing software and others. Even the Windows explorer crashes when browsing subdirectories. Windows crashes often and when it reboots I have messages stating that the NVIDIA GeForce driver took a dump.
Microsoft suggested rolling back and then re-installing the driver. After almost three months of fighting these problems I installed the latest beta driver from NVIDIA 40.72 which is awaiting WHQL certification. So far (fingers cross, knock on wood) everyting seems to be working on our test box. Bottom line...I don't feel that NVIDIA and Microsoft are on the same page. The GeForce drivers are are problem with later operating systems and NVIDIA is trying to catchup. |

Thanks for the replies. I got an email from GP and we are working on it now. I play a lot of games, I mean A LOT and this is the only game that gave me problems after upgrading to the 40.72 drivers.
I had to upgrade in order to play Unreal Tournament 2003. MS Flight Simulator 2002 still works. Whats weird is that I dont get any errors at all. The music plays and the opening screen comes up then everything stops and it goes back to the desktop. You can keep starting the game and the same thing happens over and over, no errors, nothing. I am running Win XP and GP recommended me upgrade to SP1 which I didnt want to do because of horror stories I have heard. I am just going to go back to Win2k. Before I do, I have agreed to upgrade to SP1 before I format my drive and I have to email GP with the results. I will post my results here as well. |
G2 problems
d4a,
Sounds like the same problems I had with G2 when I upgraded my nvidia drivers a few months ago. After hours of screwing around with G2, I removed the entire G2 program and add ons from my machine. Re- upgraded the newest nvidia drivers and reinstalled G2. Then went to online update at G2 (before I tried to run it again) and downloaded the newest version/upgrade (free to registered users) and voila! Lots of work, but problem solved. Jeff |

By the way I have seen this problem on Win2k and XP boxes. I also tried uninstalling all of the NVIDIA drivers and rebooting into VGA mode and then install the 40.72 driver and seem to have some success. Again I think this is an NVIDIA problem and I have seen it on software packages new and old. Anything that gets graphic intensive or uses 3d graphics and problems arise. Also tested it on Windows98...everything works fine here but I'm not willing to go back to that.

Thank you Great Planes and Knife Edge
I have been working with Mark Williams of Great Planes and Jim Coleman of Knife Edge Software for the past few days. Yesterday, Jim connected to my computer and changed something around in the programming and he got it working in no time. Within 24 hours they posted the update!
Both of these gentlemen were very professional and fast with the resolution. Put another notch on the board for Great Planes and their affiliates. Once again, they have come through for us customers. From what I understand, not many people were having this problem and for them to fix it so quick for just a few of us, well I dont have to say anymore. |
