Aerofly or G3?

Does anyone have an opinion on which is better? They both have a $200 price tag and I would prefer to spend money on real airplanes but I would also like to practice without puting my planes in deaths hands(me).

Yeah everyone who owns Aerofly thinks its the best sim and everyone who owns G3 thinks its the best sim:eek:

RE: Aerofly or G3?

I have both, and G3 is all I use. For Heli's, I find G3 as close to RL as any. Reflex was supposed to be #1 for heli's, but G3, TO ME, is as close as it gets. Planes in G3 can be tough, but what are you going to learn if it's easy. I was disappointed at first in the planes at first, but now that I can FLY, I really think it has helped. AeroFly was fun, G3 is a learning tool.

Hey Mr.Burns don't you know they don't like un-biased opinions in here[&:]

Soon enough the company men will speak...

I also have both sims and am currently on the 'beta test team" for the exporter that allows users to create their own planes for G3. All I can say is that once the beta testing is finished (should be fairly soon) no other sim will be able to touch G3 -its really that big of a deal!!

I have played AFP, AFPD, and G3 and man they are awsome simulators. However, AFP(D) stands out in graphics and simulation. There is a pretty good improvement from AFP to AFPD too but AFP is very solid too. G3 is also a good simulator, I just wish that AFP(D) had an online feature like G3.... Moreover, I believe that afpd is the best because of it's excellent graphics and awsome simulation, but I still enjoy playing each sim. :D (Please understand these are my opinions, thanks. ) ;)
OMG, finally I'm going to fly this weekend!!!!(real life) yeaaaaahhhhhhhh (I've been very busy with school and sports :D)

AFPD will also give you 14 day money back guarantee. PM for details.

Maybe G3 will offer that too, give them a call to find out!

Heh-heh...Dion has thrown-down the gauntlet! :D

Seriously, no matter what anyone flys, all the competition between sim manufacturers benefits customers.

It's amazing to watch the short-time of human memory. Not a very long time ago, the G2 customers were very happy to pay for add-ons and didn't even consider the possibility to let endusers make their own models. Suddenly, some other products come up, offering that feature plus a lot of others and the G2 people are very active to catch up. Now they want to sell this as their feature, praise the argument in their advertising, claiming features that others have since quite some time, using wrong exagzrations and their traditional customers are VERY happy?!? Wow - what a market! Did anybody consider that they could have been ripped-off for quite some time intil competiton eased the path? It's not KE's curtesy, it's the preasure of competition that makes ripping-off a little harder.

Can someone compare AeroFly with Relfex XTR? I'd like a sim that I can use for both planes and heli's - but perhaps that's not possible.

When you going to give an update on your G3 improvements report?

I also have both G3 and AFPD, I like both. I think AFPD has better physics, but I can’t stand the engine sounds. I can make G3 planes fly well if I tweak them. The graphics are great on both. George

Jaycates hasn't commented on the thread since he started it, but could anyone compare the two sims (G3 and AFPD) in some unbiased fashion?

Timepilot, what would you like to know, I just posted above. George

RE: Aerofly or G3?

George,

It's just confusing reading about all the reports, that's all. For instance, I hear that when you roll a plane in G3, you may have to deal with coupling whereas in AFPD, that's not an issue. The argument was that you'd program that out in a plane anyway, so it's no big deal.

But to me, that doesn't represent correct physics. I don't yet have a computer radio, so I need a sim to represent a plane the way it would actually fly.

I hear that AFPD is better for 3D, but that's not where my primary interest lies.

I also hear that you need to do some tweaking in the sims to get the planes to fly like for real, but how does a person know how to tweak if you haven't flown the plane before? Which is best out of the box?

I haven't been following the upgrades to both sims, and it looks like G3 is slightly more aggressive. From what I read, this is because G3 shipped a little early, before it was ready, so I'm also wondering what version of G3 are people comparing to the AFPD? Additionally, if G3 is being updated more aggressively, is it only a matter of time before it is the same as, or better, than the other?

I suppose I'm also looking for some kind of description as to what makes the physics better in either sim. What, exactly, isn't as good in one sim as the other? Stall characteristics? Effects of wind? Performance in unusual attitudes? That kind of stuff.

Thanks for asking! Now I'm hoping you weren't sorry you asked! :D

STLPilot offered you a 14 day free trial........take him up on it and see for yourself if you like it or not....i bought the g3 and didn't like it so i sold it for a loss............everybody is different and we all have different ideas on what we all like.........i enjoy my aerofly and have found the service with STLPilot to be second to none.........now thats how i feel........you need to try it and if you don't like it send it back and buy the g3 and if you don't like that one you too can sell it like i did...........Max1[8D]

Unfortunately, that wouldn't apply to the graphics card I would have to buy to run AFPD - unless the Matrox compatibility issues have been solved.

RE: Aerofly or G3?

Rick should be able to comment better on this one but from what I have seen G3 requires a decent machine, i.e. graphics card, to run well. If you have a powerful machine the newest upgrade (soon to be released) and the online multiplayer sets G3 apart from all the other sims.

Many people rave about AFPD and either sim will allow you to improve your flying. At this point to say one is "The Best" is a really a subjective thing and it just comes down to personal preference.

you need a good graphics card with any of the new sim's[8D]

The issue for me now is that I was planning to purchase the computer next spring and Tower is offering a $25 gift certificate for purchasing G3 now....

Personal preference, yes, but what does this mean? If we started a thread about how you all like your female, I bet we'd get a lot more specific answers! ;)

So what makes a G3 lover love G3 and a AFPD lover love AFPD?

BasinBum 11-22-2005 03:37 PM

RE: Aerofly or G3?

That $25 offer has been there before and will be there when you are ready.

So what makes a G3 lover love G3 and a AFPD lover love AFPD?

Because they own them!

It's a lot like doctors. If you ever mention to someone that you need a doctor they will always recommend their doctor, why, because they convince themselves that they have the best doctor otherwise they'd be stupid for going to that doctor. Someone has spent the money on a sim and they own it therefore it must be the best, otherwise they made a bad choice. Of the few that have owned both there aren't a lot of reasons to prefer one over another and of the ones who have a preference for one it is pretty evenly split between the two sims.

Either way you'll be a better pilot for practicing on a sim but untill you get that computer it is a moot point.

RE: Aerofly or G3?

I own G3, and have flown aerofly....

Im still pretty much a newb...so my opions should be taken as such.

I flew aerofly first, some planes, and thought, man, this stuff is easy, sweet....im in...so i bought a plane

Then I flew g3 at the hobby shop...damn, i crashed...and again...now i cant land...plane doesnt turn the same, this is real hard...must just be the sim, right?

Then i start flying the plane...man this thing is bouncing in the air...hard to see, and all kinds of other things that make it harder...

G3 is easier to control than real life, but closer to real life as far as i could tell than aerofly...again though...im a noob...

With the latest public update to g3 with photofeilds, aerofly is (in my opinion) graphically behind now...it wasgreat before, but now that g3 offers Photorealistic scenery AND full 3d environments...i think the aerofly guys need to get on it with the full 3d...

so take it with a grain of salt, but such is my opinion

RE: Aerofly or G3?

G3 more closely mimics real physics...but, and this is a very big but, the planes in G3 exhibit snappiness, especially the 3D models, because...well...that's what happens with tail-heavy 3D models. The sport models exhibit this trait also, to a lesser degree. I've flown G3 and AFPD, and I've flown the real stuff since '82. A noob will prolly like AFPD better, as there is much less inertial (kinetic energy) rotation during extreme maneuvers...almost non-existent at times. I didn't like the helium-filled feel of the sim, even sped-up, compared to G3.

G3 will make you a better pilot, AFTER you have learned the basics, because of its inherent snappiness, with the sport/3D models. Its trainer and other "beginner" models are docile enough to learn the basic skills, no problemo.

AFPD wll appeal to noobs, because of its easy, almost too easy, flight characteristics. After using G3 for a bit, and then switching to AFPD, I was able to unrealistically look like a pro with it.

Finally, it's personal preference. For whatever opinions I have (that only appeal to me), you will find those who have 180 degree, diametrically opposed viewpoints. Try both of the sims for extended periods. Buy the one that appeals to you personally, as you only have yourself to please...not anyone else.

Charles
