Sim recommendation for a laptop
Hi all,
I'm about to start traveling for work again and want to be able to take my hobby with me on the road. I'm wondering what sim ya'll recommend for a laptop....Currently running a Dell Latitude D400 with 1 MB of RAM. I currently have the FMS freebie at home on my desktop, but am looking at a commercial version either G3, Aerofly or Reflex. Any thoughts or input would be much appreciated. |
RE: Sim recommendation for a laptop
I'm running G2 on an IBM R51 (1.6GHZ, 512mb RAM, 32MB ati radeon Mobile) and a Toshiba Satellite 1.6ghz 256MB, both run fine.
Can't tell you about G3 because I don't have it, and based on my experience getting support and updates for G2 after paying over $300 for it and the add ons, I will not ever buy anything from knife edge again. |

Look into the HP ZD 8000 series...
I custom'ed one and it runs G3 nice, the best part is the high resolution 17" widescreen, and the fact that the keyboard has a full numpad on it too.. My specs P4 3.4Ghz with Hyperthreading 1GB RAM ATI Radeon x600 with 256MB of its own ram. 100GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM) The only downside is its a beast. It weighs close to 10-12 lbs. Its heavy for a traditional "laptop", but its a desktop replacement. It also eats the battery rather quick, between the Huge screen, the high-speed hard drive, and the fact that its a Desktop processor rather than a laptop one, you might get an hour on a battery. It really depends on how you use it. You you need it to be in your lap, this would get uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. If you would just be using it in your hotels or at meetings, etc...then this is great. I have yet to choke this machine, G3 runs beautifully, and i do alot of work in 3d Studio with it too...it handles everything with ease. You can also order this as a media machine (i chose XP Pro for specific reasons) with Windows XP Media Center Edition and an external USB2.0 Dual TV Tuner...and even without the media center stuff, it plays DVDs awesome, throw in the Altec Lansing speakers that line the fron of the machine, and you will forget your watching on a laptop, best sound quality on any laptop ive ever seen. (can you tell i like this machine) j |

Is there a way to make the diplay come up on the T.V. ? Do you need a special type of lead to connect the p.c and television up ? |

RE: Sim recommendation for a laptop
It depends on the laptop and the tv.
If your laptop has a s-video you can use that as long as your TV does. If you have an HDTV, they you probably have a VGA connection on it...in that case, use that. Most laptops have a VGA out...its much higher quality than s-video... I play on my 42" Plasma most times....is nice! |
