A copied version? Where do they "sell" the copied version? Maybe you should go there and ask for support...

You should have gone into your local hobby shop and shoplifted this software. That way you might be able to get tech support from Realflight. Or even better just steal some money from someone you know (maybe your grandmother) then buy the software.

After reading my original post it was apparent that I didn't state what I was really trying to say. But thanks anyway lilphil and KJW you guys are alot of help......Gator

Don't try to blame me when you post a question that sounds like you're using an illegal copy and having difficulty. For those wondering, the question has now been reworded to remove the reference to "copying" so don't think I'm being less helpful than termagator might have reasonably expected...

Don't worry Big Phil.

I saw the original wording and thought your response was quite appropriate. :)

I hope this was an honest mistake...

Lets Think

Gee, think maybe one household has more than one computer? Do you think Great Planes expects you to buy two systems for the same house? It can be a real pain swapping from desktop to laptop to desktop..............Get it?

Have you ever burned a CD to put in the car so you don't have to raid the home stereo every time? Legal and ethical.

Do you guys think burning a copy of realflight and buying an extra TX controller for your own use is unethical?

Why didn't you assume that is what he was asking about? At least ask a few questions before piling on.

Jess

Hey Jess.

I think everyone's cool now. Looks like it was just a good example of how some ill-chosen words can be completely misunderstood.

I've personally seen quite a few posts on various discussion groups where a person was blatantly seeking assistance in pirating software. To help someone with this would be as bad as opening the door for Winona Ryder as she leaves Sacks. :)

A little humour there. Very little. ;)

Real Flight G2 question

I wouldn't illegally steal Real Flight G2 (I already own it) but I would like the option of burning my LEGAL copy and purchasing an extra controller to use at work. I've already forked over my $200 plus dollars I don't think I'm out of line here....However, I can see where that option would put the manufacturer at risk. I guess we honest guys suffer because too many dishonest people would take advantage of that situation.

Just my opinion,
C.P.

Cougar-RCU 12-28-2002 12:51 AM

Heck

I even tried to make a back-up copy and It would not do that. I guess if I ever wreck the CD . G/P will maybe replace it? I hope!

CyberPilot 12-28-2002 12:54 AM

RSCamp,

I'd cut off O.J. in his white Bronco but I'd hold open the door for Wynona Rider :D

Sorry, that's the little pilot talking..... ;)

wy is bad to make a copy for your self? is not ilegal if you dont intend of selling it, i own the g2 and have a copy for my other comp. and that does not make it illegal, so if the guy want to make it so be it, but if we see some one trying to sell copy's of them then we have to jump and stop him but every body diserve the benefit of the doubt
just my 2cents

Making a copy is illegal, for any reason. Please review the license agreement that you agreed to. By accepting, you are now legally bound to follow it. I hope your second PC is using its own RealFlight CD, and not the CD from the first machine, or a copy.

As was stated before, It is perfectly legal and ethical to make a backup copy of software for your own use.

It is also legal to install software you own on more than one computer, provided it is not used on both computers simultaneously.

deka14353 05-23-2003 06:12 PM

at least some one

that understand the copy rights
mjd3 thanks for the reply

mdj3,

You are incorrect. It is not legal to make a copy. Read the license. You are bound to it. It is also against the license to install it on more than one computer at the same time.

Real Flight G2 question

Hey Guys,

I think there is some confusion here. The laws regarding copying music, videos, and computer software are NOT the same.

In most cases it is legal to make a copy of an original music CD or video tape that you own FOR PERSONAL USE. Downloading music or videos from the internet and burning them is another story ... illegal. The music/movie industry on one side tries to protect their rights, and consumer advocacy groups try to protect a person's right to "fair use" of a purchased product. Today making a copy for personal use os legal and "fair use," but there is consideration of changing the law with DVDs because the copies (and copies of copies) are as good as the original.

Computer software has been handled differently for years. The license agreement for each program spells out the legal use of that product. Some allow you to make back-up copies, some allow use on multiple computers it not run simultaneously, and some prohibit any copying. It is the software manufacturer's choice. If you don't like it, don't buy the software and/or don't open the package after reading the license. Once you install it, and in some cases open the sealed disk package, you are bound by the license.

That said, I think RealFlight should allow their product to be installed on multiple machines, as long as only one copy at a time is running. It is a PAIN to install and uninstall this product, and many of us have more than one computer. For example, run it on a desktop at home and on a notebook when travelling without installing each time. I think it is fine to require buying a second copy to run on two machines at the same time. That's only fair.

The bottom line is that, like it or not, you can not make legal copies of this product.

I've been a software developer for many years. I've brought a copyrighted product to market and have worked with trademark and copyright lawyers extensively, both external firms and internal legal departments.

Software owners are permitted to make a backup copy of software they own for personal use, contrary statements in the EULA not withstanding. There's legal precedent. Non copy provisions, in this circumstance, are unenforceable and irrelevant.

Regarding use on a second computer, I'll concede that the EULA sets that policy, however, you wont find me flaming anyone for this practice, and you'll never see a vendor pursue a customer for a secondary "laptop" installation, that's not their intent.

Bottom line..... You cannot install G2 on more than 1 computer. It is clear in paragraph 1 - Grant of License; which we all agreed to while installing G2.

I could be wrong here (I thought I was once before, but I was mistaken), but, I could swear that in the booklet that comes with the G2 software, it specifically says that the "buyer/end user is authorized to make a backup copy of the software for his/her personal use." I'm going to have to run home and check it out now, because now I'm wondering. My old mind is like a trap.....a rusty one, but nonetheless, a trap.
