Pulling Crystal??

Forgive me if I'm being redundant, but I'm new to the hobby and don't completely understand the threads I've read. Can I screw up my Futaba Skysport 4 by NOT pulling out the crystal while using FMS?

Thank you in advance

Most FMS dont requdire that you turn the trannmitter on so you don't need to pull the crystal. In fact can you even remove the crystal I would guess that it is soldered in. What does the instructions say with your FMS?

FMS requires the TX to be powered on. Pull the crystal and that will kill the RF section.

"Pull the crystal and that will kill the RF section." I have no idea what this means.

I need to have the power on during use and am wondering if I should or should not pull the crystal out?

Thanks again

When you pull the crystal, the transmitter stops sending out radio waves.

All of the FMS interfaces I have seen require the TX to be on.

when I plug my FMS pic interface into my 8U super, it actually turns the radio on and disables the RF signal.

So, I should remove the crystal during sim use or it wiil hurt my radio, yes?

Remove the crystal during the sim. Yes your radio can be hurt running for extended periods with the antenna all the way down if the crystal is not removed.

You can also leave the crystal in and fly with your antenna extended and turn the switch on in the plane. This way you can cycle those batteries as well.

Leaving the crystal in the TX will just drain the battery faster. I doubt that it'll damage the RF block, but you never know.
Once, I forgot to remove the frequency block from my Futaba 7UAP, and I was "flying" RealFlight this way for a month. Nothing bad happened!
